Owl Crate is a monthly subscription of books and bookish items. Each OwlCrate contains one new Young Adult novel, as well as 3-5 other bookish items all matched to the monthly theme. OwlCrate always sends the best items to go along with their theme with the hottest new books out there.

October’s OwlCrate theme is Lost in the Bookstore. OwlCrate always has the best info card prints. One side is a print representing the theme and the other side is the information for the box contents.

The information card tells a little bit about all the items in this month’s box along with little comments on why they were selected or other fun tidbits. The theme follows through even with the info. It is always decorated to go along with that month.

Everything in my October OwlCrate box.

In addition to the information card, we get a booklet with more info on the author and theme and each month we get a pin that has the theme represented.

With this month being Lost in the Bookstore we got not one but two books! Each book has an exclusive cover and is signed by the author!!!

Each book comes in a plastic sleeve to protect it in travel. I take the sticker off the bag and put it on the inside sleeve so I always know where it came from and what is special about it.

This month’s exclusive cover really adds some color to the original cover.

Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa ($13.51) – This is a different tale from many of the Owl Crate books but I’m all about some historical and paranormal in my books so this sounds good for me.  I love that she is searching for a scroll that is perfect for a bookstore and reading type box.

One thousand years ago, the great Kami Dragon was summoned to grant a single terrible wish—and the land of Iwagoto was plunged into an age of darkness and chaos.

Now, for whoever holds the Scroll of a Thousand Prayers, a new wish will be granted. A new age is about to dawn.

Raised by monks in the isolated Silent Winds temple, Yumeko has trained all her life to hide her yokai nature. Half kitsune, half human, her skill with illusion is matched only by her penchant for mischief. Until the day her home is burned to the ground, her adoptive family is brutally slain and she is forced to flee for her life with the temple’s greatest treasure—one part of the ancient scroll.

There are many who would claim the dragon’s wish for their own. Kage Tatsumi, a mysterious samurai of the Shadow Clan, is one such hunter, under orders to retrieve the scroll…at any cost. Fate brings Kage and Yumeko together. With a promise to lead him to the scroll, an uneasy alliance is formed, offering Yumeko her best hope for survival. But he seeks what she has hidden away, and her deception could ultimately tear them both apart.

With an army of demons at her heels and the unlikeliest of allies at her side, Yumeko’s secrets are more than a matter of life or death. They are the key to the fate of the world itself.

The book also came with a note from the author and a bookmark.

As we have gotten the last couple of months the books don’t only have an exclusive cover but it is signed by the author.

Pride by Ibi Zoboi ($12.32) – This one looks like a bunch of fun. I’m a big fan of Pride and Prejudice and all of the retellings that are out there. This is a new twist on the classic tale.

Pride and Prejudice gets remixed in this smart, funny, gorgeous retelling of the classic, starring all characters of color, from Ibi Zoboi, National Book Award finalist and author of American Street.

Zuri Benitez has pride. Brooklyn pride, family pride, and pride in her Afro-Latino roots. But pride might not be enough to save her rapidly gentrifying neighborhood from becoming unrecognizable.

When the wealthy Darcy family moves in across the street, Zuri wants nothing to do with their two teenage sons, even as her older sister, Janae, starts to fall for the charming Ainsley. She especially can’t stand the judgmental and arrogant Darius. Yet as Zuri and Darius are forced to find common ground, their initial dislike shifts into an unexpected understanding.

But with four wild sisters pulling her in different directions, cute boy Warren vying for her attention, and college applications hovering on the horizon, Zuri fights to find her place in Bushwick’s changing landscape, or lose it all.

In a timely update of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, critically acclaimed author Ibi Zoboi skillfully balances cultural identity, class, and gentrification against the heady magic of first love in her vibrant reimagining of this beloved classic.

The exclusive cover this month changes the title colors from the regular blue to the OwlCrate pink.

Like the other book, this one is also signed by the author.

Another note from the author and a bookmark for this book.

To go with all our reading we got some Choco-mint Truffle tea from the Tea Spot. Books and tea go hand in hand and I like trying all the new ones I get form Owl Crate.

The tea packaging itself is really cute. Both sides are decorated and themed. So fun!

To go along with the tea OwlCrate sent is an exclusive tea diffuser. Purple is my favorite color so I’m very happy with this fun little gadget.

Time to get cozy with some fun new socks from Out of Print and Underlined.

These socks are colorful and fun.

It features fun lettering on the bottom.

This is another fantastic book item for the box this month. This canvas clutch by Bookworm Boutique is large enough to hold a small book and keep it protected while I’m out and about. I’m thinking it will be great to hold my book in my on the go bag so I can have it with me all the time. I’ll read more when I can get some time waiting on my boys on their activities.

The detailing follows all around the clutch. So much detail for such a cool bag.

To round out our Lost in the Bookstore box we get an exclusive print illustrated by Michelle Gray. Many of us, if we looked into the Mirror of Erised’s reflection, would see a pile of books and letters to Hogwarts.

This month’s Owl Crate was spot on for all of us that are book nerds to the core? The clutch is probably my favorite item this month and one I can see myself using over and over again. I can’t wait to cozy up with my socks and pull out my current read in front of a cozy fire.  OwlCrate always sends the most curated and thought out items in their boxes. I love opening it up each month and seeing what they’ve come up with.
