It’s full of white squiggles. The theme for the September 2018 OwlCrate Jr. box is GHOSTS & GHOULIES!

Included in the box is an information card.

It conveys a bit about everything in the box.

The Owl Crate includes the booklet of the theme which features author, announcements, activities and everything fun (not to mention scary!) about the box. The booklet is a brand new addition!

Here we have the chance to enter the mind of the author of the featured book. In the short interview, we get to know the origins, trivial facts and some tidbits about the author’s life.

If you loved City of Ghosts, Owl Crate Jr. recommends Anya’s Ghost, The Graveyard Book, and The Boggart.

They also have activities and features an artist to encourage us to keep our creative juices flowing.

There are a lot of announcements in this page so don’t miss it.

Everything in the September OwlCrate JR. box!

Ghost Button Pin. This pin looks cute and not scary at all!

It is durable and can be placed as an accessory to your shirt or bag this Halloween.

Ghost Hunter Patch. As usual, the embroidery of the patch is high quality. It makes a cute collectible item.

Treat Bag/Tote designed by Vanessa Port, aka Veep Doodles. Our trick or treat tradition will never be complete without a bag we can fill in with Halloween treats!

It is exclusively designed and made for us by Vanessa Port for Halloween! The print is in beautiful contrast with this black tote bag. Its size also permits candies and treats of all sizes.

Crafted Van Magnetic Bookmark. I love bookmarks and this one’s a really nice way to mark pages without damaging them!

It’s a foldable papercraft with 2 magnets at each end so you can mark your book with ease.

Aww, the ghost is reading stories about himself.

It’s adorable and you won’t even have to worry about losing it. This magnet is clasped to your book.

The back is just plain but has the same silhouette as the design in front and you can see ghostie’s little teddy bear!

Pocket Pop! Keychain Blindbag: Disney – Nightmare Before Christmas ($5.95) Funko always comes up with cool products and this is one of them. It’s a Nightmare before Christmas themed blindbag. There’s one character in each bag and it stands 1.5 inches.

We love blindbags. Every package is a surprise!

We got Jack Skellington!

He’s not really scary when wearing a Santa suit, right?

The ring is flat and durable for multiple keys.

City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab ($12.32)

New York Times bestseller!

Ever since Cass almost drowned (okay, she did drown, but she doesn’t like to think about it), she can pull back the Veil that separates the living from the dead . . . and enter the world of spirits. Her best friend is even a ghost.

So things are already pretty strange. But they’re about to get much stranger.

When Cass’s parents start hosting a TV show about the world’s most haunted places, the family heads off to Edinburgh, Scotland. Here, graveyards, castles, and secret passageways teem with restless phantoms. And when Cass meets a girl who shares her “gift,” she realizes how much she still has to learn about the Veil — and herself.

And she’ll have to learn fast. The city of ghosts is more dangerous than she ever imagined.

#1 NYT bestselling author Victoria Schwab delivers a thrillingly spooky and action-packed tale of hauntings, history, mystery, and the bond between friends (even if that friend is a ghost . . .).

This card contains a heartfelt letter from Victoria Schwab.

Well, I think she is right about the book being the best place to be afraid. Every emotion you feel is based on the characters but you are in control of your surroundings. The characters can have a lot of dilemmas and still, you are at the comforts of your home, basking under the sun with your pet or cuddling under the covers.

If you post this in your room, you will definitely achieve a daily dose of spook from this.

And the signed bookplate!

If you judge the book by its cover, you will not categorize this as an easy light read because the illustration is intense.

This book, whatever the first impression, is an interesting, humorous read. You get to root for the friendships and relationships formed however unconventional.

It’s a straightforward novel. The plot twist is not that shocking but regardless because it’s a children’s book, it also speaks through the heart and is relatable to anyone.

What makes a story scary is the anticipation and the scenes in which you are dreading if whether there is something bad going to happen or not. This is the part where the character weighs in if she will give in to what her instincts tell her or deny herself and think that everything is just a figment of her imagination.

I absolutely adore Jacob’s personality and his friendship with Cass. His sarcasm and humor are endearing and goodnatured.

Stickii Sticker Sheet. The sticker sheet features usual Halloween characters from one of our fave sticker subscriptions, Stickii!

You can use these as decorations for invitations or stick them into your themed party favors.

There’s a good mix of stickers that are all associated with Halloween but in a cute and not in a scary way. There are word stickers, number 13, grim reaper, ghosts, bats, witches, skeleton heads, treats, webs, animals, and ingredients for potions.

National Geographic Kids Funny Fill-In: My Haunted House Adventure  ($4.99) It’s a fill in the blank adventure in a Mad-Libs style!

Based on the wildly popular National Geographic Kids magazine department “Funny Fill-In,” a long-running hit, this fun, interactive book challenges kids to think about words in creative ways, and to write their own wild and wacky stories.

Do you dare enter the haunted house? Come inside to see what ghastly frights and terrors await.
Filled with excitement and hilarity, this compositional challenge lets you tell your very own story starring…YOU! Combining National Geographic Kids’ photography and illustrations in colorful laugh-out-loud pages, this engaging, entertaining, and educational book takes you on an adventure through the wild west and invites you to enter a new world imaginatively by combining your story with theirs.

There are a lot of adventures to choose from that suits your mood or interest. But this box sent us the My Haunted House Adventure because it’s eerie and fits the theme.

The story is already plotted out. We will give words based on the required part of speech. You will create a fun, silly, and maybe spooky narrative out of the witty words you supply!

Every page has different scenery but is always based on the theme. It will help the kids to know more about vocabulary and parts of speech.

The October theme will be Mail Call.

The October box is all about the art of snail mail and how our mailboxes can surprise us any time.

Owl Crate Jr. had a marvelous Halloween themed box this month. I love how it came in plenty of time to get us spooked up for the big event! They gave us an exciting novel and an amusing activity book. The letter and autograph of the author are always inspiring for kids especially when they relate to the story. The stickers, pin, and ghost patch are awesome collectibles. My favorite is the tote bag because it can be used anywhere. On top of being a trick or treat bag, you can use it on groceries and a great alternative to a plastic bag. We love the box and we look forward to the next one!
