Everything in the August 2018 Birchbox Curated Box!

Birchbox Kabuki Brush ($5) Oh, a Birchbox branded brush! Kabuki brushes are the best for applying powder, but you could use it for blush or highlighter.

Umm, maybe not. I always pull gently to see if the bristles will shed but I’ve never had a brush do this before!

According to the packaging, this brush is made of synthetic bristles.

NOTE: Long story short, I received two of these brushes this month and the second one wasn’t like the one above. I did experience some shedding but nothing at all like I experienced with the first brush. Also, it was kind of awkward to use, but its small size might be helpful in a travel bag or purse.

Amika Phantom Hydrating Dry Shampoo Foam ($3.54) I think people either love or hate dry shampoo, and I am one who can’t use it due to having oily hair that really has to be washed every single day.

I gave it a try just before jumping into the shower. I loved the scent, Amika products always smell lovely. I dispensed a golf-ball size amount through my hair and it felt just yucky, I don’t know how else to put it. My oldest daughter loves this type of product so I am sure she will appreciate having a sample to take back with her to college.

Oribe Featherbalm Weightless Styler ($6.17) Oribe is another brand that makes hair products that smell wonderful. I really like their volumizing mousse so I was looking forward to trying this styler that has the word “weightless” in its name. I distributed some through damp hair before blow drying. It turned out to be similar to a leave-in conditioner, and I ended up having a bad hair day. I couldn’t even get the brush to pick up my hair, it just lay flat against my scalp. I would suggest this product for anyone who needs a good conditioner because my hair was super soft.

Borghese Advanced Fango Active Mud Mask ($8.89) One thing I noticed on the Birchbox site is that they state this product should be rinsed off before it dries completely. They suggest 2-5 minutes max.

It was thick and spread easily on my face, but you could also use this on your upper back, chest, or body. It sort of smelled like rose geranium.

DOUCCE Cheek Blush in RSVP ($12) I really liked the shade of this blush, which for some reason looks purple on the Birchbox website.

The only thing I disliked is that I don’t really have a holder for this product. I guess you would put it in a magnetized compact.

The color had a bit of sparkle but nothing over-the-top. I thought it deposited a lot of product with just one swipe.

Here it is swatched on my inner arm.

I like trying all kinds of new items and with Birchbox I get to try 5 new items a month! There were some hits and misses. The brush wasn’t very upscale and the hair products were definitely not a hit with my fine, thin hair. I did like the blush, both the formula and color, and the mask was a pricey item and I felt like the sample size was pretty generous. I found the products in the curated box to have a value of around $35.60, which is wonderful for a $10 box!
