There are several genres to choose from such as “For the Janeite” (all things Austen), “For the Proud” (LGBT), and “For the Wee Ones” (for children). I went with “For the Sleuth” since I am currently on a mystery kick. I answered some questions and gave a link for my Goodreads account. I said I like books that take place in the U.K., ghost stories are good, but I didn’t want any gore. I mentioned that I like historical romance and Gone Girl types of stories.

I received a personalized card and was intrigued by the description of the book in my box!

If you already own a book sent or are just not loving it, then pass it along to someone else and let Page 1 Books send you another title.

Everything in my box! My book was wrapped separately and I received some other book-related items.

I appreciate it when I receive a bookmark in a book box because it usually goes missing by the time the next month rolls around.

The back of the bookmark featured a classic quote.

I usually receive a classic postcard like this one that’s From the Desk of Jane Austen: 100 Postcards. Also suitable for framing and setting on a desk.

The back looks like a postcard but the paper is thin cardstock so mail at your own risk.

WM Shakespear’s Midsummer Night’s Balm ($3.50) I need a subscription box of things from this previously unknown to me brand! Henry VIII and his disappearing wives mug? Lady Macbeth’s Guest Soap? Shakespearean Insults Mug? Please just box them up and send them along!

Even the packaging is in keeping with the way, way-retro wording.

Put some puck in your pucker!

The flavor is just like classic cherry lip balm, but without the petroleum products, parabens, and unpronounceable ingredients of the one I used to wear way back when.

Ahh, the main item! It is wrapped like a gift and I give it the appropriate opening ceremony, which means I rip into it ruthlessly, leaving paper all over the floor.

Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris ($16.99 list price, currently selling for $9.40) Once again, Page 1 Books sent a book that looks exactly like the kind I would pick for myself, yet I had never heard of this one before! It takes place in England, it is a suspenseful thriller, and it has a 4-star rating on Amazon. I can’t wait to get started on this book!

Everyone knows a couple like Jack and Grace. He has looks and wealth; she has charm and elegance. He’s a dedicated attorney who has never lost a case; she is a flawless homemaker, a masterful gardener and cook, and dotes on her disabled younger sister. Though they are still newlyweds, they seem to have it all. You might not want to like them, but you do. You’re hopelessly charmed by the ease and comfort of their home, by the graciousness of the dinner parties they throw. You’d like to get to know Grace better.

But it’s difficult, because you realize Jack and Grace are inseparable.

Some might call this true love. Others might wonder why Grace never answers the phone. Or why she can never meet for coffee, even though she doesn’t work. How she can cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim. Or why she never seems to take anything with her when she leaves the house, not even a pen. Or why there are such high-security metal shutters on all the downstairs windows.

Some might wonder what’s really going on once the dinner party is over, and the front door has closed.

From bestselling author B. A. Paris comes the gripping thriller and international phenomenon Behind Closed Doors.

Once again, I felt that Page 1 Books picked a book that is perfect for my reading preferences. I’m not sure how they do it, is it magic? They are spot on and I appreciate that I saved time not having to look for a book (although I oftentimes enjoy the process on my own, but this was quicker!). I like knowing that once a month the perfect book for me will show up in my mailbox. The extras are cute and I was especially happy to be introduced to a new-to-me bookish-themed company (seriously, I can never have too many mugs!). I would recommend this subscription to anyone, but especially to someone who is short of time or who has hit a lull and doesn’t know what to read next.
