GLOSSYBOX is a monthly beauty subscription box with at least 5 luxury samples. They have announced a new limited edition box for 2018, The GLOSSYBOX X KARL LAGERFELD + MODELCO Limited Edition Box!

This box is worth $164, and you can still purchase it for just $35 ($30 for GLOSSY subscribers).

The first item from the Karl Lagerfeld + ModelCo collab appeared in the April Glossybox. A few days after we posted that review, Lagerfeld made some remarks about being fed up with MeToo. Another Lagerfeld item appeared in the June Glossybox and I mentioned I’d address it in this review.  It’s worthwhile to note on Glossybox’s behalf that this collab was planned/announced an entire year ago (WWD 5/30/17)

Through this collaboration, we can offer our consumers a glimpse into how we translate the Karl Lagerfeld vision and aesthetic into unique cosmetics,” Pier Paolo Righi, chief executive officer of Karl Lagerfeld, said in a statement.

“We look forward to developing the collection and combining our signature DNA with innovative, cutting-edge beauty products for all women,” he added.

Shelley Sullivan, founder and ceo of ModelCo, said she was honored to collaborate with Lagerfeld. “This superfun, highly coveted and collectible collection will combine our high-quality formulas and innovative, technical packaging with Karl Lagerfeld’s unmistakeable artistic aesthetic that’s sophisticated, modern and cool,” she said.

However, apparently running his mouth off isn’t anything new – see here, here, and here :

But it’s his broader, sweeping statements about women’s bodies that is most troubling. He’s taken issue with “ugly daughters,” and he never shuts up about the fat thing. For someone who speaks often of the importance individuality, creativity and artistry, he really buys into the most boring and tired conventions of physical beauty when it comes to women, believing whole-heartedly in the-thinner-the-better.

This collab was probably troubling to begin with, but IMO his latest comments are inexcusable. The items review is just about the contents, you can make up your own mind about it, just like you can any other box based on the info we present.

Here’s an info card about the collaboration. They called this limited edition collection Illuminated Beauty.

The fold out sheet lists the items included in the limited edition box.

There are pink squiggles inside the box and the presentation is chic.

Everything in the GLOSSYBOX X KARL LAGERFELD + MODELCO Limited Edition Box!

Karl Lagerfeld + Model Co Blush Brush ($31) It is inspiring to put on some make-up and unleash the make-up artist within when you have a good handy brush. This all-black brush has super soft and fluffy bristles that make it easier to apply makeup.

It is tapered to contour the high points of your face. You can use this for blush, bronzers or highlights and contour. The brush glides on skin smoothly.

Karl Lagerfeld + Model Co Baked Blush – Rose Pink ($44)

The packaging is sleek with the iconic glasses and ponytail of Karl Lagerfeld as the logo. I can also perfectly see the color and shade of the products because of the transparent packaging.

The shade really suits me for the summer season! It creates a radiant blushing glow that also highlights our cheeks because of its light shimmer.

It glides smoothly on the face and the pigment is buildable. It can also last for hours depending on your skin type. It’s fairly similar to the one in the April box, if you received that one. This one is pink, and that one is rose gold.

Karl Lagerfeld + Model Co Lip Liner – Red ($29) The red shade of this lip liner is not too bright, which I like. It has a matte finish but very creamy when applied. It doesn’t feel tacky and the formula feels comfortable on the lips.

Iit feels creamy and glides smoothly creating a more plump look. It is very pigmented and doesn’t budge or smudge.

Karl Lagerfeld + Model Co Long-Lasting Liquid Liner ($30) You can create a lot of eye looks and the perfect wing with a good black liner.

It has a tapered brush to line the lids and to make a cat-eye. It is my fave out of the box because it is long lasting and it doesn’t smudge or melt out. It is just as jet-black after a long day as it was when applied.

Karl Lagerfeld + Model Co Lip Gloss – Ramatuelle Deluxe Mini ($15) The lip gloss has a flattering tint that feels hydrating and not sticky. It is creamy with a satin finish which will make us effortlessly beautiful this summer, good for everyday makeup.

It makes lips nourished and luscious. Just swipe away with the soft doe-foot applicator and you’re good to go. The lip gloss is highly pigmented with shiny coverage.

Karl Lagerfeld + Model Co Lip Couture Lipstick – Red Deluxe Mini ($15)  It fits in a purse for touch-ups.

The color is in deep red. It has a buildable creamy pigment that covers the lips smoothly. It is not transfer proof but it does last for hours.

These are the swatches of the  Karl Lagerfeld Collection. The liquid liner and the lip liner have the best swatches. The lip gloss may appear watery but it is rich in color and glossy when applied on the lips.

From the presentation of the chic box to the well-curated products, the collaboration was certainly high fashion. There was a high value – over $160 – but the products seemed overpriced given the fact that they were pretty much ModelCo items, with the collaboration detracting, rather than adding to the value. Still, for a full-sized blush, lip liner, eyeliner, and gloss and lipstick mini, it felt like a good value (ignoring everything else).

What did you think of this Limited Edition GLOSSYBOX?
