Dispatch by Breakout Games is an exciting, interactive mystery subscription that puts you in the middle of a detective story. Every month, Dispatch sends a new batch of clues that further the ongoing story. Each month’s installment is $24.99, and shipping is free. The stories last between 2 and 7 months, but you can cancel anytime.

This month, I received the first installment of a new mystery, a 2-monther called “Marlow’s Game.”  In this game, you have been selected to participate in a worldwide (and world wide web-wide) hunt for a reclusive billionaire’s fortune.  You’ll use clues from the box, some brainpower, and the internet to solve the mysteries and claim the prize.  There are apparently three keys which you will need to unlock the treasure.  Sure, that sounds a little bit like a certain book-turned-megamovie, but probably with fewer obscure 80s references.  This looks fun!  Let’s do it.

As usual with these Dispatch boxes, the production quality is top-notch, from the real wallpaper to the newsprint to the cardstock notes.  Make sure you check everything that looks like a portal, like that Insta handle for Sir Sebastian.

This letter from Jacob Marlow introduces our adventure.  Those Cats Eye Emeralds sound like they might be unlucky. . .

You could frame this fun wallpaper cutout, I guess, but I’d check out the hieroglyphics first.

This is a much smaller series than the On the Run set that we’ve reviewed previously, and it doesn’t look like there’s a built-in help portal (as with the Bailey Detective Agency) but you can probably find some hints on their Slack channel or Facebook page.

Hmm, looks like a few things going on with this note. . .stamped cats, one of those Two Door Riddles, and. . .a web address?  No more hints from me!

I liked this short but fun series.  If you’re a puzzle-solver or just like to pretend like you could be a treasure hunter, you’ll like jumping into Dispatch.

Sir Sebastian seems to have a lot of looks, yes?  Which version did you prefer?  Let us know in the comments!
