Powell’s Boox is a bimonthly picture book subscription. For $35.95 every other month, the box features one new hardcover picture book and an additional hardcover staff favorite, along with other exciting goodies.

The picture books they include are usually with diverse characters, inventive storylines, exquisite illustrations, and charming prose for you to treasure for years to come.

The items were tightly wrapped in plastic.

Each box comes with a coloring sheet.

The back of the coloring sheet shows a list of all the items in the box.

Everything in my box!

Cycle City Coloring Sheets. There’s an art sticker in front, featuring a bike with a basket full of books!

And a coloring sheet waiting to be livened up! The images are quite detailed but they’re still fun and interesting to color. You can use crayons, colored pens, or colored pencils to bring the illustration to life.

Nutcase Brass Bling Thumbdinger Bell ($8.99) It’s a bell made of brass, a nice accessory or signaling device for bikes.

It has all the attachments already, so you only need to secure it on the handlebar.

It’s shiny! The brass bell fits nicely on the handlebars of a bike so that it will be easier for your kid to push the bell.

The Nutcase logo is also printed on the bell’s body. Ding ding! This is so fun!

Cycle City By Alison Farrell ($17.99)

When little Etta the Elephant goes to her Aunt Ellen’s house, she takes a journey through bicycle-filled Cycle City, a town filled with bikes of all kinds! At the end of the day, a special surprise awaits Etta—the most amazing bicycle parade imaginable. Detail-rich illustrations in this fun seek-and-find book paint the colors of this unusual town where everyone rides some kind of bike—whether a penny-farthing, a two-wheeled unicycle, or a conference bike, everyone is on wheels! Packed with prompts and lots to see on every page, this is a sweet story for the sharpest of eyes.

The sleeve of the book gives a nice insight of what the book is all about. It’s a hunt-and-find story, which encourages the readers to pay attention to the details of the illustrations!

At the end of the book, you will see different types of bikes and their names too.

One spread in the book showed a lovely illustration of the bustling park in the city. If you notice, there is one area here that was used in the color sheet too. It has a lovely Richard Scarry quality to it, right down to the font.

At the back cover is Little Etta and Aunt Ellen on a bike. What an adorable illustration! Check out their matching pink scarves, both look too cute for words!

The Lost House By B.B Cronin ($13.29)

Fall into this award-winning seek-and-find book with its richly timeless style and get swept up in a treasure hunt through Grandad’s wild house!

The children want to go to the park with Grandad, but they can’t leave until they find his lost socks…and his shoes…and even his teeth! Will they ever get out of Grandad’s busy house? With a trove of wonders to discover on every page, this seek and find book will enchant young and old alike as they search for Grandad’s lost objects. Oversized dimensions, a textured paper-over-board die-cut cover, eye-popping color, and elaborately complex spreads on every page make this book a collector’s item and a must-have.

It’s another seek-and-find book and we’re not complaining because these kinds of picture books really are entertaining.

Here’s a nice illustration of Grandad on his favorite chair with his grandkids wanting to go to the park. Grandad agrees to take them but they need to find a few things first. I must say that the illustration is quite charming and my kid loved it instantly.

Here’s a sample page, where you need to help the Grandad find his socks! Except for the characters, the illustration per spread is only in one color.

Because the illustrations are in a single color, it becomes trickier and more challenging to find the objects! Some of the pages are totally fluorescent. Still, my kids had fun going through the picture book.

Powell’s Boox is an ideal subscription if you have an early reader at home. Picture books are a great way of getting them engaged in stories. The illustrations, more than just a feast for the eyes, make it easier for them to analyze what they’re reading. This month, we received two hunt-and-find picture books and both were enjoyed by my kids. We went through the books together, but these are also ideal for independent reading. The bell was also a nice addition and we appreciate the extra coloring sheets to keep my children busy! All in all, it’s a win-win box for young readers and parents!
