Birchbox is a beauty sampling subscription service that sends 5 new items each month so you can try before you buy. Birchbox is $10 a month and you can choose a monthly sample during selection time, let Birchbox decide, or pick a pre-curated box.

This is a review of a regular, non-curated box.

The theme is Soak in the Sunshine!

The information card gives brief details on each item as well as the price if you were to buy the full size.

You can visit Birchbox.com/MyBox to easily see the details of your box, which I recommend because sometimes they have videos on the item product pages which I find useful.

Everything in my May box!

Hanalei Lip Treatment Clear ($6.54) This lip treatment tends to stay on the lips instead of being absorbed so it works better if you apply and leave it overnight for maximum nourishment and hydration. It’s like a layer of moisture barrier that tastes sweet. It has a thick and slick consistency and a small amount goes a long way.

Shea butter locks in moisture. The formula also has agave and grape seed oils for antioxidant protection. It doesn’t clump up no matter how dry the lips are.

Comfort Zone Remedy Cream To Oil Ultra Gentle Cleanser ($3.45) With a combination of cream and oil benefits, this facial cleanser helps remove impurities and makeup then hydrates skin without leaving a residue. It starts out creamy, then turns to oil upon massaging on your skin. It is infused with sustainably-sourced marula oil which also has moisturizing and purifying effects. I like how gentle the formula is. It’s ideal for my dry skin and it also works on sensitive skin or those prone to redness.

Nyakio Kenyan Coffee Face Polish ($4) This face polish aims to tone the skin by removing dead skin cells using anti-oxidant rich Kenyan coffee. It also contains jojoba and shea butter which is known to make the skin radiant, nourished and hydrated. The formula is gentle but it does smell like coffee. While it is not my personal preference, those who love coffee and are energized by its smell would probably love to use this exfoliating scrub in the morning!

Matrix Total Results Mega Sleek Shampoo ($2.02) Formulated with shea butter, this shampoo seals the cuticles and provides frizz control which is ideal for those who have thick or curly hair.

Matrix Total Results Mega Sleek Conditioner ($2.02) Ideal for using with the Mega Sleek shampoo, this conditioner is also packed with shea butter to protect hair against humidity. However, I have to include that this formula is not natural or organic.

Birchbox offers a lot of variety and has been very consistent about it, but since this is a regular non-curated box, there’s a greater chance for me to receive something far from my preferences – like the coffee exfoliating scrub and the shampoo and conditioner combo which is for thick and frizzy hair (mine’s thin and fine). At least I got a cream to oil face cleanser and a lip treatment that I could really use. Also, getting all these $18 worth of beauty samples for $10 is not an entirely bad idea!
