BeautyFIX is a monthly subscription box from Dermstore that sends you the latest skin care, hair care, and makeup products for $24.95 a month (or $34.95 for a one-time purchase). They feature full and travel-sized products and promise the box will contain at least $100 worth of items. Everyone receives the same products, although makeup colors or scents may differ, but at least you will know what you’re getting if you decide to purchase the box after you see the contents.
TIP: You can subscribe to BeautyFIX and receive this exact box – it’s usually available all the way through the end of the month!
The theme this month is Date Night.
If you want to purchase the full-size items, you can visit Dermstore’s online shop and save up to 20% by using the provided code.
The product information card includes each item’s name with a short description. They switched it up, along with a new box design, to be all on one sheet.
The packaging looks good!
Everything in the May box
Peter Thomas Roth Mega-Rich Body Cleanser ($1.67) Packed with hydrating moisture, this body cleanser has a rich gel-like texture that freshens up and revitalizes skin. It’s good for sensitive skin and produces a good lather too. The formula made my skin feel clean and fresh, but what I really liked about it is the citrusy smell that stays on for quite a long time – no need for perfume!
VMV Hypoallergenics Hydra Balance Smart Moisturizer ($5.57) From the name itself, this moisturizer promises to expertly balance moisture in combination skin. It doesn’t add shine to oilier areas but provides intense hydration to dry areas. It absorbs quickly into the skin and it can be used whether day or night, as primer or all on its own. Key ingredients include acne fighting monolaurin, softening glycerin, and moisturizing virgin coconut oil. Even if you don’t have combination skin it’s great for crossing one season to the next!
NEUMA neuMoisture Instant Fix ($3.90) You can spritz this conditioning formula to damp hair before heat styling or to dry strands for an instant boost. It’s ultra hydrating, but very lightweight. Packed with vitamins and proteins, it adds shine and makes your hair easier to manage. It also helps detangle knots and protect hair from damage. I like it except for the strong smell.
SkinCeuticals Discoloration Defense Correct ($13.06) Free from parabens, silicone, and hydroquinone, this serum helps exfoliate dead skin cells to reveal brighter and more radiant skin. It also corrects skin discoloration and protects skin from environmental damage, free radicals, and UV exposure. You just have to apply 3 to 5 drops of the serum to your palm and then pat it to your face (I always always end up using more though!). Also, users are advised to limit sun exposure while using this product to maximize its effects. It’ll take a few weeks to see the results, but the serum does feel good on my skin since it gets absorbed easily. There’s no residue either.
Dermablend Mini Setting Powder ($2.89) It’s a fragrance-free and non-comedogenic setting powder with a matte finish. You can bake it on your face and use for contour.
This smudge-free and transfer resistant powder works well with sensitive and allergic skin. I like that it’s finely milled and non-cakey.
Dr. Brandt Pores No More Luminizer Primer ($38) This primer has a lightweight creamy texture and lavender scent. It contains optical diffusers, illuminating powder, and lentil seed extracts. It helps in refining and lessening the look of pores, while improving skin complexion. To use, just apply to clean and moisturized skin. You can wear it alone for a natural bounce of light on the skin, or under makeup to prepare your skin for easier and flawless application.
Fillerina Replenishing Gel Grade 2 Filled Applicator ($2.75) So unique! This product has 3 grades and what you use depends on how deep and many the wrinkles are. Grade 2 is for fine wrinkles and fine loss of volume in cheekbones and lips. They promise that the results of this product last for 3 to 4 months.
It is a topical treatment at home that is prepared to be used for 14 days (this is a small sample – half a full application for one day). You can apply it using a truncated tip on areas with depressions such as age wrinkles and expression furrows or those specific areas that need plumping. After applying, leave it for 10 minutes until it is absorbed and press the excess into skin.
Even though I think this product works for temporary filling, it’s definitely a gimmicky preparation and it’s a bummer not to receive more than a half day’s use. Maybe try it on one half of your face and see if you seem lopsided? If so, then purchase entire pricey set immediately.
Even though it LOOKS like a syringe you don’t puncture your skin – here’s a video that shows how the application works.
Murad Multi-Vitamin Infusion Oil ($2.70) Powered by vitamins A through F (ok I had to look up F – it’s linoleic acid), this oil target signs of aging, fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and rough skin texture. It boosts hydration, protects skin from free radicals and brightens the skin for it to look more youthful. It is a lightweight product that is absorbed by skin quickly to balance and make your skin healthy. Results might take a few weeks though, so you have to consistently apply it every morning and night after cleansing. Hard to do with this teeny sample!
Tocca Beauty Giulietta Eau de Parfum ($2.13) I like the subtle yet modern appeal of this scent. It has notes of ylang ylang, green apple, and pink tulips. It also has a hint of lily of the valley, iris pallida, vanilla orchid, and lilac.
It has a clean, sweet and fresh floral scent that is feminine and light but it doesn’t fade away easily. I love that this is a product inspired by a real-life Italian love story. And that it has a sprayer!
Juice Beauty Stem Cellular CC Cream – Desert Glow ($3.90) Ideal for all skin types but most beneficial for aging skin, this CC cream has a broad spectrum of sun protection and a mineral tinted coverage which is rich in antioxidants. It helps even out skin tone and creates a radiant and glowing complexion. Also, the formula doesn’t have artificial dyes so it adapts to the skin without problems. It is cruelty-free, and formulated without parabens, petroleum, propylene or butylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfates, pesticides, phthalates, as well as synthetic fragrances.
Replenix Plumping Lip Treatment SPF 30 ($10.40) It is a multifunctional pigment-free lip treatment that nourishes and moisturizes, plumps and volumizes, hydrates and conditions. Ingredients include hyaluronic acid, which attracts and binds to water to revive and hydrate cells.
It also protects lips from drying radiation of the sun because it has SPF 30. There is a normal temporary tingling sensation to lips, but it also goes away quickly.
I think the products in this box are a bit of a stretch for this month’s theme (well, except for the perfume, it has love and dating written all over it). Some of the products must be applied for 2 weeks or more to see the results. It’s not enough of quick fix for a date night. However, what I love about this box is that almost all products are anti-aging and contains SPF which is very summer ready. I’m always interested in how to spice things up with regards to my skincare routine and I’ll keep these products in mind. I also like Dermablend setting powder because it is light on the face and easy to apply. It is good to try luxury items in sample sizes first so in that respect it was a good box but the hair protector and primer were the only items that had a really substantial amount to use over and over. The total value was about $87 – the $49 or so that wasn’t the primer was mostly made up of true sample sizes of extremely pricey products, not deluxe-sized samples.
