Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Gloss – Kristen ($7.00) This color is described as a cool desert sand. I love it! It goes on with an opaque but glossy finish and doesn’t leave my lips feeling tacky. The nude shade works with a variety of skin tones, giving a slight rose finish. I have a similar color with a matte finish that is good for the office, and this lip gloss makes an easy transition to night. This deluxe sample is about half of a full-sized tube!

Here’s a look at the swatch. This has a long staying power, and I only had to do a minor touch up after eating.

GlamGlow SUPERCLEANSE Clearing Cream-to-Foam Cleanser ($3.20): This is a pricey cleanser, and I feel that you have to use quite a bit to get a rich lather built up. It is designed for all skin types, but is targeted for those with acne, oily skin, and large pores. The formula contains a blend of 3 charcoals (coconut, ubame white oak, and gray bamboo) to clean and purify skin. When I used this, I noticed a cooling effect, thanks to the TEAOXI® eucalyptus and licorice, which felt amazing. However, it wasn’t enough for me to justify the price of a full-sized tube.

smashbox Photo Finish Primerizer ($4.00): The price seems high on this sample (it’s only 4ml), but it is worth it. You don’t need much product to cover your face – I was able to get about 5 uses. I think this formula is genius. It combines a lightweight moisturizer with smashbox’s popular primer. The product contains hyaluronic acid and naicinamide to hydrate skin. This absorbed quickly and gave a smooth surface for my foundation. I found that I needed less product when I used this as my base versus my regular moisturizer.

CLINIQUE Pep-Start Eye Cream ($5.30): Need a quick pick-me-up for tired or puffy eyes? That’s where this comes in. Just massage a little bit of product under your eyes to hydrate skin and brighten dark circles.

boscia Exfoliating Peel Gel ($6.80): This gel uses a combination of antioxidant rich enzymes to exfoliate skin. It works as a physical peel to remove dead skin, as a chemical peel to penetrate deep into skin for in-depth exfoliation, and as a treatment for skin to appear more firm and brightened for a healthy-looking complexion. I really wanted to like this product, but I don’t think it is for me. I have fine hairs on my face, and this clung to them some kind of fierce. It’s like when you get a gel mask in your eyebrows or sideburns, but in my case it was on both of my cheeks. It took so much effort to rinse this off, that I was discouraged from using it again.

OUAI Treatment Masque ($4.00): I used this masque as a pre-shampoo treatment. Honestly, I didn’t notice much of a difference in my hair. Maybe, I washed all of the benefits out with my shampooing routine??? The formula contains tamarind seed extract to hydrate strands, keratin to smooth and repair hair, and artichoke leaf extract to seal the shaft and provide a protective layer. If I get this again, I’ll have to try it as an after shampoo treatment.

I think it was a tie between the Anastasia lip gloss and smashbox Primerizer for my fave items this month. My Play! by Sephora contained about $30 worth of product. Not bad for a $10 subscription. While everything doesn’t always work for me, I like that the subscription gives me a chance to try out products without spending a ton of money. That is one of the many reasons that I get excited when I see the black and white stripes in my mailbox. Can’t wait to see what next month holds.
