Owl Crate is a monthly subscription of books and bookish items. Each OwlCrate contains one new Young Adult novel, as well as 3-5 other bookish items all matched to the monthly theme. I love finding new authors and new companies that Owl Crate uses to curate and send a perfectly themed box. Everything is always so spot on and I love them all.

April’s OwlCrate theme is Shadows & Secrets. OwlCrate always has the best info card prints. One side is a print representing the theme and the other side is the information for the box contents.

The information card tells a little bit about all the items in this month’s box along with little comments on why they were selected or other fun tidbits. The theme follows through even with the info. It is always decorated to go along with that month.

Everything in my April Shadows & Secrets OwlCrate box.

The Informational booklet has become a staple in the boxes.

We get interviews with the author and some of the suppliers of the extra items, a sneak peek of the next OwlCrate and a comparison of the exclusive cover versus the regular cover.

The book comes in a plastic bag each month and the exclusive cover sticker is on the outside of the bag.

I take the sticker off the bag and place it on the inside sleeve of the jacket. This way I will always know why the book looks different then what I can see online if I was to go to look.

Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody ($14.41) – A seedy underground story of intrigue and gangsters. I’m all about a good gangster story and the dealings of the mob and con men. This sounds like a fantastic mystery.

Welcome to the City of Sin, where casino families reign, gangs infest the streets…and secrets hide in every shadow

Enne Salta was raised as a proper young lady, and no lady would willingly visit New Reynes, the so-called City of Sin. But when her mother goes missing, Enne must leave her finishing school—and her reputation—behind to follow her mother’s trail to the city where no one survives uncorrupted.

Frightened and alone, Enne has only one lead: the name Levi Glaisyer. Unfortunately, Levi is not the gentleman she expected—he’s a street lord and con man. Levi is also only one payment away from cleaning up a rapidly unraveling investment scam, so he doesn’t have time to investigate a woman leading a dangerous double life. Enne’s offer of compensation, however, could be the solution to all his problems.

Their search for clues leads them through glamorous casinos, illicit cabarets and into the clutches of a ruthless Mafia donna. As Enne unearths an impossible secret about her past, Levi’s enemies catch up to them, ensnaring him in a vicious execution game where the players always lose. To save him, Enne will need to surrender herself to the city…

And she’ll need to play.

The book also came with a note from the author and some postcards.

Did you notice I again didn’t include a signed bookplate in my extras this month? That is because OwlCrate is now sending autographed books! While they aren’t saying it will be this way every month we have gotten them the last couple of months.

Harry Potter inspired pencil from a collaboration with Jubilee Designs – We are a very Harry Potter family but I am not sharing these pencils. These are going to in my person stash and I can’t wait to pull them out when I’m with the girls. I really think they need to be in my crafting stash for fun nights away.

The details are great and I love the options they chose for sayings. Mischief Managed indeed!

Shadowhunter Soap from Three Sister’s Apothecary by Soap Cauldron – Oh wow this soap is gorgeous. There are so many colors and they are all the way through the soap.

Just to let you see the colors from the side. So right and nightly. The soap bar itself come in a cute little matchstick style box that slides in and out. I’m not sure I want to take it out to use it.

Dark Chocolate & Sea Salt coffee from Bones Coffee Company – An OwlCrate exclusive flavor and it smells divine. A darkly rich way to plot and scheme and rule the world!

Young Elite sticker by artist Jamila Mehio – I don’t know this book or the character of illusionist Adelina but I’m digging this sticker. It isn’t subtle at all and I love it.

Theme pin – Each month we get a pin to that month’s theme.

Crooked Kingdom inspired pillowcase designed by Stella Bookish Art – Back in January 2018 we got our first pillowcase from Stella Bookish Art and this month we get a second one! This one is inspired by Crooked Kingdom and is again so large and well made.  I actually keep my library as I call it in my guest room so I’m going to have both of these pillowcases on the bed in there once I get this one washed. They are a perfect match and made me a bit giddy with excitement.

Owl Crate box took us to a world of Shadows & Secrets this month! I was not sure what to expect this month and they really thought out of the box with these goodies. The thought put into each item is phenomenal and unique. While a basic item I’m really inspired by the pencils. Even as an adult I still use regular pencils in my notes, designs, and crafting all the time. These are all mine and I really am not going to share but they will give me the extra kick each time I read them as I write. What a great month all around from OwlCrate and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next!
