Everything in the March 2018 Breaking Ground Curated Box!

ModelCo Luxècreme Long Wear Lipstick in Sienna ($6.67) I like the simple packaging! It’s a semi-matte lipstick that promises to stay on all day on your lips so there’s no need to constantly re-apply.

I got it in Sienna, a deep red shade with orange undertones. It was indeed long-lasting. However, it’s not fully smear proof like a matte liquid lipstick would be.

Here’s the swatch! It’s well-pigmented and creamy, with a slight matte finish. I just loved this rosy color – this is a use it all tube for me!

Bumble and bumble Thickening Spray Pre-Styler ($3.53) The main ingredient of this spray is hydrolyzed wheat protein, which is activated by heat. So if you want this to work, you should blow dry your hair to achieve full results. It’s not sticky and it feels light in the hair. There’s a strong smell but it fades over a couple of minutes. I focused on putting it on my roots and some at the middle portion and tips of my hair. It added volume and my hair became bouncy – perfect for limp hair like mine!

Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré (24-Hour Miracle Cream) ($1.87) It claims to be a multi-function hydrating cream. It has a nice scent at first but fades when applied to the skin. It is absorbed by my face rather quickly and made my skin hydrated and supple.  It’s moisturizing and a good base for makeup.

It is paraben free and ideal for all types of skin. Ingredients include shea butter, beeswax, soy protein, and aloe vera.

Smashbox Cosmetics Insta-Matte Lipstick Transformer ($12) I think it is a good idea because if you are on the fence about buying matte lipsticks, you can always just try and test this with your creamy lipsticks. The formula has a silky feeling once you put it on your lips – it’s dimethicone based and basically takes Smashbox’ primer technology and puts it on your lips. It makes my creamy lipstick semi-matte so it didn’t dry my lips. It is not transfer proof though and it doesn’t make the pigment long lasting. It just really gives you the illusion that you’re wearing a matte lipstick. It was super fun to try out!

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye ($7.40) Yay for Kiehl’s! This works amazingly well and brightened and hydrated my under eye area. My dark circles became noticeably lighter and it reduced under-eye puffiness. It’s light on the skin and not tacky.

Ingredients include seed oils, shea butter, and root extracts. It also has a botanical lipid that mimics the molecular structure of natural skin lipids. It is only 3 mL, but a little amount of product goes a long way.

I love that Birchbox gave us a variety of products for this month, including skincare, makeup, and hair care. The most useful items for me are the Kiehl’s eye cream and the volumizing hair products. Though a lot of the products are not perfect, I enjoyed sampling all of them. The whole box is already a great deal with its total retail value of $31.47.
