I received am insert on how to germinate seeds and then transplant them outside. We are past our average last date of freeze in Central Texas so I can skip this and plant directly in the garden.

I thought the box itself was cute – it had a faux-wood look. There are 5 different climates to choose from and I am reviewing the “mild” selection. I live in zone 8 so I would have chosen “warm” or “hot” myself. Keep in mind that your seeds and products may vary!

I found a folded brochure that contained a lot of information.
PlowBox sends only organic, non-gmo seeds. No Frankenfood here!
The note mentions the level of difficulty along with brief growing instructions. I would suggest going to a gardening website for more info on planting. Some of the seed packets I received were different from the varieties mentioned. For instance, I received Bachelor Buttons instead of sunflowers, a different variety of pepper than the one shown, and no cabbage, although I did receive watermelon.
Finally, there was a recipe using some of the finished produce. It will take a while to grow the ingredients!
I received 8 different varieties of seeds. I think it is too late to plant lettuce here. Our spring can have huge temperature changes – we are not even halfway through March and it is supposed to be close to 90 degrees today! However, I can go ahead and plant tomatoes, peppers, and all the summer-time crops.
The seeds were in brown paper packets with the Seattle Seed Co. logo on the front. You can buy more seed packs for $3.25 each online ($26 in seeds are in this box.)
Growing instructions were listed on the back side of the pack for some of the seeds. Others have generic Pacific Northwest growing instructions. Three of the packets had the generic instructions that didn’t help. For instance, Bachelor Buttons are a flower so the vegetable timetables didn’t help. This is why it is a good idea to look at growing instructions online.
I received a Plowbox branded pencil ($1?) One year I made markings on an unsharpened pencil and I would push the pencil down 1/4, 1/2, 1, or 2 inches as needed when planting my seeds!
You can’t go wrong with rose gold.
There were 8 hardy wooden Plant Markers like the ones I found here ($2 value). You can write the seed name in permanent marker and then place it in the garden so that when the seeds start sprouting you can tell which is which.
Earth Body Soap ($9) Seattle Seed Company sells a lot of garden-related items and even has several soaps, although I couldn’t find this particular scent in their shop.
It is inspired by African Black Soap, which is made with sun-dried and roasted plant ingredients. It is scented with essential oils and has a base of saponified oils.
Yep, it’s black! It smells a little minty and while I haven’t tried it yet, it is next on my shower rotation.
The last item was a greeting card ($4?). It features an African Marigold and is black, white, and shades of grey. It is blank on the inside and has a matching envelope. It is simple and fascinating and would go great with some seeds from the garden.
There were a few inconsistencies in my Spring Plowbox but overall it was a nice box to receive when I was already getting the garden ready, which makes it very timely. I do like the varieties of seeds I received, I hope I can get them going because I would love to harvest some fresh veggies. It is like a mini miracle when you pull something from your own backyard and can feed it to your family. My box had a value of around $42, which is not bad for a seed box. I can’t wait to use my soap, the pencil is useful, and the card is detailed, like a mini work of art. I plan on planting some of my seeds today, while some of the varieties may have to wait until fall or winter.
