It’s the Ipsy vs. Sephora Play vs. Birchbox $10 Beauty Box showdown!

Ipsy vs. Sephora PLAY! vs. Birchbox

BOX BASICS: All three subscriptions are just $10 per month, so it’s easy to draw comparisons. All three of these beauty boxes also ship out 5 samples (Sephora PLAY! also sends a bonus fragrance plus a beauty item, and occasionally you’ll get a small extra in Birchbox).

CUSTOMIZATION: All three subscriptions also ask you to complete a basic beauty profile. Ipsy allows you to rate items for ipsy match and has started allowing a limited number of subscribers to select an item, but that feature isn’t yet universal. Birchbox also allows you to rate items but doesn’t alter your profile in response to your ratings.

REFERRALS & POINTS: Both Birchbox and Ipsy offer referral points; redeem points on full-size products in the Birchbox shop or on selected samples in the Ipsy bonus section. You earn points on the monthly Sephora subscription plus you can redeem a PLAY! card in-store for an extra 50 points on any purchase.

VARIATIONS: All three of these boxes also send out multiple subscriber variations – we’re showing what we’ve reviewed here, and we would love to hear your experiences in the comments!

Our thoughts? You’re most likely to get items you’ll find in Sephora in PLAY!, including some cult up and coming goodies. That’s a no brainer. Ipsy is a mix of influencer faves, some prestige products, and some drugstore. You won’t often find drugstore products in Birchbox – but you may find some interesting natural beauty brands.

PLAY! by Sephora ($10 per month!)

Items:

Total Value: About $37.10

This month’s Sephora is focused more on skin care, and our favorite is the eye cream! The total retail price of this box is $37.10, not bad for a $10 monthly subscription.

Birchbox ($10 per month!)

Items:

Total Value: About $38.41

Items from this month’s regular Birchbox are great for everyday use. Our favorites from the box include the no-clump mascara, the magnetic single eyeshadow, and the Oribe leave-in. Total retail value is about $38.41, a really good value for a beauty box that only costs $10 a month!

Birchbox Curated Box ($10 per month!) – Find Your Happy Curated Box

Items:

Total Value: About $65

With a good amount of the pricey Clark’s and the full size primer, this box added up to about $65. What impressed us even more is the overall variety of products. There are hair care items, skin care must-haves, and even something for the lashes!

Ipsy ($10 per month!)

Items:

Total Value: About $67

This month’s Ipsy is a good curation overall, and I have to note that this is the bag that isn’t personalized for me. The total value was about $67 which is super high – but also reflects some price inflation. Even getting out of this with a nice mask, a perfect full size brow gel, and a great scrub for $10 – I’m more than happy!

Review: Ipsy January 2018 Review

Items:

Total Value: About $50.38

Ipsy #2 for January is fairly good. It has the same contour palette from Ipsy #1, but included a better shade of the lippie. Our favorite from this curation is definitely the tweezers!

All subscriptions are great and each of them has something new to offer to beauty junkies. However, my favorite this month was the curated Birchbox – maybe my favorite of all time!

What did you think of this month’s Sephora PLAY!Ipsy, and Birchbox? Did you have a favorite?
