Plated is a weekly dinner kit subscription box with high-quality ingredients and chef-created recipes. Each week you’ll choose from a variety of quick gourmet meals that range from meats, chicken, seafood, and purely vegetarian options. There’s enough selection to please all palates, and the recipes are seasonally focused. You can choose any lineup of recipes from the available options and skip any week you don’t want.

Boxes are always packed with the meat on the bottom with several big ice packs – the rest of the food is set on top on a cardboard barrier. Putting all of the ice in the lower compartment prevents frost damage to the more delicate veggies.

On-card information is streamlined and includes only prep-time, number of servings and calorie count. Most of Plated’s meals serve two people. Unless stated otherwise, our pics of finished dishes show a single serving.

Plated’s recipes rely on mise en place, prepping everything before cooking. This works well, but we always read ahead – you can save time and cutting board space by shifting some steps around, like prepping garnish later while something bakes, instead of at the beginning. The recipes are easy to follow, with ingredients printed in bold and tips to avoid common pitfalls.

All the food comes bagged up and separated (mostly) into the recipes – meat and some large or delicate items are bagged separately. The recipe cards tell you anything you need from home – usually just cookware, salt and pepper, and some olive oil – occasionally you’ll need an egg.

Peanut Thai Chili Chicken With Crunchy Slaw & Brown Rice 30-40 minutes, Easy, 820 calories per serving

This has everything you need for a satisfying meal! It’s composed of healthy brown rice topped with tender saucy chicken, as well as shredded carrots and cabbage, basil, cilantro, spinach, and bell peppers. The peanut butter, soy, and lime sauce makes it powerfully flavorful, yet refreshing. This dish also honors the Thai fondness for spicy food — the star of the recipe is a sweet chili sauce known in Thailand as nam chim kai. It adds a slightly briny zing to the dish. This dish takes a little time to prepare, as there is a bit of chopping, and the chicken needs to be cooked prior to assembly, but the use of pre-shredded slaw saves some time. Definitely a must-try if you love spicy dishes.

Philly-Style Beef Sliders With Caramelized Onions And Banana Peppers 25-35 minutes, Easy, 980 Calories per serving

Plated’s Chef Giuseppe said Philadelphia’s greatest contribution to mankind is their amazing cheese steak, and I wholeheartedly agree. It’s true that the steaks are really delicious and appealing but making it a slider version stacked with sharp Provolone slices, caramelized onions, and pickled banana peppers for a tangy garnish is just magnificent. This clever take on the recipe avoids the trouble of shaving steak or picking a cut that is suited to the purpose — instead, we just use ground beef and serve it Manwich-style! Served with a creamy chive mayo for dipping, these handheld bites are awesome! The dish is a breeze to put together, too, making it an all-around winner.

We can’t stop loving Plated, because they offer a diversity of delicious, healthy, and simple to prepare meals. Flavors range from the exotic to classic French sauces, but the recipes go easy on the zesting, juicing, and other labor-intensive preparation. The instruction manual is very detailed – you just have to follow it exactly to achieved your desired result. This week’s recipes packed huge flavor, and we had a blast making them, too!
