Wolf And Dog By Sylvia Vanden Heede ($16.95)

Shares the adventures of canine cousins, Dog and Wolf, who live very different lives but continue to get each other into mischief.

This witty story accompanied by glorious watercolor illustrations was an instant favorite among my kids! I was surprised to see a poetry book, especially one translated from Dutch, but the translation is excellent.

It’s a fun and light read, perfect even for new readers but even better as a read aloud!

On the flap of the cover, there is a brief introduction about the author.

Aside from the funny scenes, this book will also teach kids about the importance of family… and even food and fleas.

Labracadabra By Jessie Nelson & Karen Leigh Hopkins ($18.70)

Zach isn’t impressed with his new dog, Larry, at first. He’d hoped for a chocolate lab or a spaniel, not this funny looking mish-mash of a dog with a great long tail. And who names a dog “Larry,” anyway? But Zach discovers that when Larry twirls that ridiculously long tail – Labracadabra! – amazing things happen. It’s not very long before Zach knows that he and Larry will be Best Friends Forever!

It’s a classic feel good story about a boy and his new pet. My kids can totally relate because we have pups at home too!

The illustrations are in black and white, but big enough to catch the attention of children. This level is perfect for my 7 year old.

Labracadabra!

Mason Moves Away By Amy Crane Johnson ($16.95)

Solomon Raven is the smartest bird in the forest. In each of the book in series ,reoccurring characters explore nature during the four seasons.

This book introduces the kids to nature from the perspective of an animal… A BEAVER!!! (If you aren’t familiar, I have a beaver collection, which started because it’s a difficult thing to collect, so it’s always exciting to add a new item!)

The story uses more difficult language which is great to expand kids’ vocabulary.

The illustrations are quite vivid and the pages are glossy. Plus, beavers.

We love receiving new and interesting books that help my kids with their reading and comprehension. This month is all about animals! As always, the selection is impressive because of the age-appropriate stories, plus the lessons they impart. They even included a book about a beaver and I think I got more excited about it than the kids!!! Also, everything is great either for reading on their own or for a little family bonding during bedtime.
