The back of their intro card explains the rationale behind adopting Apollo on the Carton’s logo.

The theme for December 2017 is Watch The Box.

The information card tells you what’s in the box, providing a value for each item.

Everything in the December Culture Carton.

I Love Ugly Charlie Watch ($125) This watch with brown straps is simple yet classy. It even came with a sleek black box, perfect for storage.

Inside the watch’s box is an info sheet indicating the features of the watch and a little quote on how precious time is for each person.

Here’s a list of the watch’s features!

The straps are made with genuine leather!

Its casing is stainless steel with flat edged mineral glass. It’s water resistant!

There’s a quote embossed at the back of the leather strap, and it’s funny but true!

There is nothing better for creativity than panic.

The Martian by Andy Weir ($15MSRP, $10.20 on Amazon)

Brilliant… A celebration of human ingenuity [and] the purest example of real-science sci-fi for many years… Utterly compelling – Wall street Journal

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars.

Now, he’s sure he’ll be the first person to die there.

After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive.

Chances are, though, he won’t have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain-old “human error” are much more likely to kill him first.

But Mark isn’t ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?

It is a fast-paced, action-packed, sci-fi adventure about a botanist who has been left on Mars during a mission. This book initially was self-published, but later on picked up by a large publisher due to its creative plot.

The book format is much easier on the eyes than I anticipated, given the dark tone of the book. Good line spacing and relatively large print make this a good bus, subway, beach, or bedside read. Even though I’ve seen the movie, I can’t wait to read this book.

Minute Mixology Margarita Cocktail Mixers ($8) This cocktail mixer with orange, agave, and lime creates a perfectly balanced instant cocktail on the go. There are 8 packets in one box.

Preparation is simple and fast. Just add the mixer to water, liquor, and ice, and you’re ready to go!

It comes in a convenient single serve packaging that you can take anytime and anywhere, just in case you’ll be needing a drink. Perfect for holiday travel!

Brooklyn Biltong Seasoned Dried Beef ($10) Dried beef is the South African version of beef jerky. Instead of drying the meat with heat and adding a bunch of corn syrups, they dried the grass-fed beef with air and kept all sugars away – making it tender and tastier.

It is a high-protein, low-fat, and all-natural snack. MSG, gluten and nitrate free too!

The beef are cut into strips and a good supplement for numerous dishes like salads, pizzas and sandwiches.

There was a great variety of items in this month’s Culture Carton. I think the watch is great, and I like that they included edible goodies I can share with others! Their book choices have always impressed me, from the self-improvement titles they sent in the early boxes to the recent New York Time best sellers, and this month’s featured novel was not an exception. This is a great subscription if you want to get your hands on items to help you become a modern and cultured man!
