The theme for this box is SOPHISTICATE. Artisan Box subscribers have a selection of themes from which to choose. This way, artisans will be able to meet GlobeIn’s needs while also having longer, steady work as they continue to produce items for the Artisan Box.

Along with all of the lovely items in the box, the Artisan Box includes a booklet that gives details about each of the artists responsible for the items in the box.

Everything in my box!

Decorative Tray – India ($15) This tray is made from 100% recycled cotton paper. It’s a wonderful accent piece handcrafted by artisans from a minority group called Kagzis.

The colors and the coordinated design of the tray makes it so eye-catching. Dark blue and gold really go well together. At first glance, you won’t even notice that it was made of recycled materials, particularly discarded cotton scraps. I think it’s great for storing keys and jewelry – but I admit it’s first use was to hold some Lego bricks for me!

Ikat Wallet – India ($30) Next up is a wallet made of dyed yarns carefully hand-woven to form a gorgeous pattern. The process is called Ikat weaving and it is one of the most distinct and unique forms of art in India.

I like the unique pattern. Having this wallet is like carrying a piece of art with me wherever I go.

The wallet’s interiors feature passport sized pockets where I can put all my important cards. Meanwhile, in the middle, there’s a long zipped pocket for bills.

Also included in the box is a patterned pouch and it contains the next item…

Brave Bracelet – Uganda ($25) This delicate bracelet from Sseko Designs is made of brass and has a charm that says “Sseko.” The information card notes that the charm has the word “brave” is engraved, but that’s not on my bracelet, nor on the one in the picture.

The charm is removable and you can also easily add other charms as you wish. According to GlobeIn, this brass bracelet develops a unique patina over time, or you can polish it to preserve the shine!

There’s also an info card listing other items from Sseko Designs, plus the meaning behind each piece. It would have been nice to receive an unbranded charm.

Earth & Fire Necklace – India ($22 each) Here’s another unique piece I can’t help but love. The necklace’s pendant is a combination of wood and well-engraved brass from the Matr Boomie collective. Metal engraving is an Indian art form that dates back more than 500 years.

It is made with sustainably harvested wood and other recycled materials. Not just pretty, but eco-friendly too.

The chain is quite long but not too long. I think this statement necklace would be great for wearing with a black dress – so chic!

Everything here is truly sophisticated, living up to this month’s theme. The detailing on the accessories are so impressive, while the wallet and the tray are not just beautiful but useful too. The bracelet was a bit of a miss, though, with only a branded charm without any meaning to it.  As always, I enjoyed reading about the artisans’ stories and how they kept the legacy of their art form alive.

I really enjoyed receiving this box. My favorites were the tray and necklace. They sent me a different necklace with tassels (which I am not very fond of). When i called they have me a credit but it was not enough to get the necklace and potential shipping. Called back and they sent me the necklace directly.
