First look!

My glossy red box was wrapped in plastic and my products were snuggled in white tissue paper and shredded squiggles for packing.

Everything in my box!

Each box comes with a mini magazine that gives tips on how to use the products, how much the full-sized product costs, and where to purchase, along with discount codes! I also noticed that some of the items had variations listed below the main item, so your box may differ from mine.

The January 2018 box theme is To New Beginnings and is here to help us ring in the new year – the perfect time for a fresh start!

Sunday Riley C.E.O Rapid Flash Brightening Serum (Full-sized! $85) This is a big-ticket item and probably gained Allure a lot of new subscribers this month! It is supposed to help brighten skin while leaving it plump and tight. I twisted the top and squirted a pump of this white cream into my hand and applied after cleansing. It went on like most other creamy products, and after a few seconds my skin absorbed it up. It has orange oil in it to give it a citrusy scent, but I am always wary of using citrus oils on my face, especially since I am exposed to a lot of sun here in Texas year round. Make sure to use a sunscreen to help avoid photosensitivity, or use it exclusively at night.

This Works In Transit Camera Closeup  ($18.30) is a 3-in-one product that moisturizes and primes your face while somehow acting as a mask (?). It is supposed to relieve redness and prime skin for makeup. I felt a bit of stinging shortly after applying and I probably could have skipped my regular moisturizer. As for a primer, my skin looked fine all day long.

THE ONE by Frederic Fekkai One And Then Some Dry Texturizing Spray ($2.25) is a spray texturizer that is supposed to give hair some oomph, which my hair is certainly in need of constantly. I tried it a couple of ways. First, I sprayed it on my hair but it just made it stick up all over in a weird way. I have a short bob haircut but I suppose someone with long, wavy hair might like that bed head effect. The second time I sprayed it on after blow drying and before curling. I sprayed it in, brushed it a bit, then applied my curling iron and sprayed my usual hairspray all over afterwards. I had body and volume all day long! It also smelled nice, like peachy perfume, although it only smelled that way for an hour or so.

Make Up For Ever Artist Liquid Matte Lipstick in Rosewood ($11.20) is a long-lasting matte lipstick that didn’t leave my lips overly dry.

Allure calls this color “opaque pinkish nude” and it looked horrible on me. There was a bit of time to move it around on my lips before it set so I quickly swiped some red on top and mixed it around with a lip brush and was much happier with the effect. I was also impressed with the staying power, although it did transfer to my tea mug.

Rodial Smokey Eye Pen in Brown (Full-sized! £17, around $23.63) Yay for an eyeliner in a color other than black! This one has a smooth tip and spread easily without pulling my eyelids.

The shade is just what I like although I was afraid that with it being so smooth that it wouldn’t last the whole day. I went ahead and wore powder shadow over it and was very happy with the results, and lack of smudging at the end of the day.

Allure Beauty Box always sends a nice assortment of items with something for everyone! I was especialy happy with the eyeliner and hair product but how cool was it that Allure featured an $85 full-sized product?!? My box had a value of around $140.38, but keep in mind that Allure sent many variations this month and your value may be higher or lower depending on which items you receive. Want to know what to expect in future boxes? Here’s a peek at what you might find in the February and March boxes!

Kate, I have looked all over but haven’t been able to figure out exactly what the bonus gift might be. This makes me think that it may vary depending on whatever stock they have available. I would love it if you would come back and tell me what you ended up getting after you receive your box!
