Everything in the November Culture Carton.

Das Boom Shampoo ($2.17) This daily shampoo thoroughly cleanses hair without drying it out, leaving it clean and healthy. It also uses extracts of lemongrass and tea tree to keep locks strong and well-nourished.

Das Boom Conditioner ($2.17) The conditioner contains rich moisturizing oil of avocado, argan, and rosehip that help to keep hair soft and shiny while tea tree and rosemary help to keep hair and scalp nourished and protected.

Both the shampoo and conditioner are inspired by the ancient and historic city in Morocco, Marrakesh: an invigorating blend of fresh bergamot, sweet cardamom and spicy black pepper. They’re well-suited to all hair types.

Pocket Gel Instant Use Gel ($1.80) These gels can be used wet or dry. They are great for tossing in your gym bag, travel dopp, desk, or glove box, so you can get a quick hair fix when needed.

La Colombe Coffee Vault ($14) The coffee vault is an airtight canister of pre-ground coffee that self-pressurizes to keep coffee fresh for five times longer, and each vault is made to yield four perfectly balanced cups from a drip brewer. You get both a prolonged shelf life and a brewed-same-day-as-roasted fresh flavor!

Kiko Leather Travel Kit ($90) When traveling, a good and versatile travel kit for all your toiletries is a must! It helps your bag stay organized, and you can set it on the counter and basically live out of it instead of leaving your grooming items spread all over the place.

This Kiko travel kit is made of premium, black pebbled leather and a tartan cloth lining.

It has a spacious main pocket and two side pockets – one open-topped and one zippered. Loops on either end make convenient handles.

It comes with a pouch that can be used to help organize your other valuables! It makes a great travel bag for socks and undies.

Walden And Other Writings By Henry David Thoreau ($18.94)

With their call for “simplicity, simplicity, simplicity!”, for self-honesty, and for harmony with nature, the writings of Henry David Thoreau are perhaps the most influential philosophical works in all American literature.

The selections in this volume represent Thoreau at his best. Included in their entirety are Walden, his indisputable masterpiece, and his two great arguments for nonconformity, Civil Disobedience and Life Without Principle. A lifetime of brilliant observation of nature–and of himself–is recorded in selections from A Week On The Concord And Merrimack Rivers, Cape Cod, The Maine Woods and The Journal.

There’s an introduction by Ralph Waldo Emerson.

The book has nearly 800 pages of Thoreau’s best writings, including his most celebrated, Walden.

The book also includes commentaries and a reader group guide.

One of my favorites passages notes the common lament that the modern intellect doesn’t measure up when compared to the ancient, responding that each should instead “endeavor to be what he was made,” and making the observation that “If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer.”

This is fun subscription for self-improvers. Every box has a book that is either a great read or relates to some area of self improvement, so there is something to learn or stimulate your brain every month. This month’s book was a bit of both. The past book choices are great as they have included NYT Best Sellers and Pulitzer Prize winners that are also fun reads — Culture Carton actually has one of the best book curations of any subscription. I also like the travel kit from Kiko, it has a very clean look, yet it can hold all the toiletries I’ll need when traveling. I actually like to use a Dopp kit inside my bathroom drawer at home just to keep my stuff organized, and this would be great for that, too.
