Play! by Sephora is a monthly subscription box that brings only the best and exclusive Sephora beauty and makeup samples. The subscription costs $10 per month, and you’ll get 5 deluxe beauty products, playlists, a fragrance bonus item, plus coupons you can use when you visit in-store.

Everything arrives packed in a bag, preventing items from rolling around in the box. I’ve got a growing collection of cotton drawstring bags… maybe Sephora could look at some other type of packaging?

Don’t forget about your Play! Pass. It gets you 50 extra Beauty Insider points with a purchase from the box (in-store only). Your subscription also entitles you to Play! Date meetups, if your store participates.

October’s theme is Complexion Companions. Products are designed to provide you a system for priming, covering, and finishing your look. This month’s brochure has some info to help you with your morning routine. And, don’t forget to check out The Beauty Insider Community. Create a profile and start joining the discussion!

The fold out poster shows a list of all the items included in this box plus product/brand trivia and beauty tips. You can access all of the information and also watch videos right on the Sephora site or use the app to scan the sheet for more info!

Everything in my box! My variation was box 966. Click here to see variant items in other boxes!

dr. brandt | Pores No More Luminizer Primer ($9.50):  I am a fan of dr. brandt products, and this primer met my expectations completely. The formula is a little thick, but it glides onto skin nicely. The primer helps to reduce pores while giving skin a glowing look with its light-diffusing properties. It gives your foundation a great base.

Make Up For Ever | Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation – Y445 ($6.88):  With 40 shades to choose from, there’s nearly something for everyone’s skin tone. This tone was just a shade or two off from my natural complexion, but there’s no way that Sephora could possibly match each subscriber. I liked the lightweight formula which gave a natural finish. This didn’t cover all of my freckles, and that’s alright by me. I like to see some of my skin’s uniqueness come through in my makeup.

Cover FX | Custom Enhancer Drops – Moonlight ($7.98):  Cover FX is another brand I like, but this is a new product for me. These drops can be used to create a bronzed or sun-kissed effect on skin. You can use this over powder or mixed into your foundation for an all over glow. I think I’ll use this like a highlighter. Be careful though, a drop can go a long way with this.

Sephora Collection | Instant Moisturizer + Cream ($6.90):  From Sephora’s in-house collection comes this moisturizer loaded with hyaluronic acid to hydrate skin and fight aging. This is described as being good for those with dry and sensitive skin; however, I have oily-combination skin and am afraid that this may make me shinier. I think I’ll use this as my overnight cream.

Skin Laundry | Hydrating Cream Face Wash ($5.00):  This is a soap-free formula that cleans skin without stripping it of moisture. It contains macadamia nut and meadowfoam seed oils to hydrate skin. Again, this is another product targeted at dry skin. Maybe I need to update my Play! profile and remove the aging skin concerns. There’s not much of a scent to this and the creamy formula feels nice on my skin.

Gucci | Gucci Bloom Eau De Parfum ($1.86):  This smells like a walk through a spring garden. The key notes in the fragrance are Rangoon Creeper, Jasmine Bud, and Tuberose. I am not a fan of 2 of the 3 notes, and the highly floral fragrance is not one that I have in my scent profile. This comes on strong and takes a while to soften. The only bonus is that it was not a “vile vial” as Brandy would say. LOL

Product swatches from top to bottom:  Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops , MUFE Ultra HD foundation, and dr. brandt Luminizer Primer.

Last month, the fragrance was noticeably absent from a few box variations. While I’m glad to see its return, I wish that the scent was one I would have liked. I did like the cohesive theme of a start to finish skincare routine.  I am VERY excited about the Cover FX drops. They are going to be fun to play with (unless my niece steals them – she has an obsession with highlighters). The value of my October Play! by Sephora box was $38.
