This box is really decorated inside and out. While the outside has little food items on it, the inside is full of bright green words. Plastic wrap and brown butcher paper keep all the contents safe.

The information sheet provides details of all the products in October’s Degustabox, which has a festive Halloween theme.

By far the most Halloweeny product in the box is Pechkeks Misfortune Cookies (£1.50).  These are black cookies filled with black humour fortunes. The packaging for these is really cute – mine looked like a demented little teddy bear.

The fortune was a bit insulting, but the cookie tasted fresh, sweet, crispy and definitely better than you’d get at the average takeaway.

Vitmo Millions Gift Jar (£2.99) marries Millions with the distinctive taste of Vimto. These chewy little sweets are deliciously addictive, with a sweet and fruity tang. I was surprised by how much I liked these!

Feel Good Drinks Water Infusions (2 x £1.20) are made with 100% natural ingredients, just water, fruit juices and natural flavourings. I tried two different flavours. Strawberry and Mint is a very refreshing, lightly flavoured still water. With only 20kcal and 4g of sugar per bottle, this is a wonderful alternative to plain water. The Orange, Mango & Water beverage, with 116kcal and 26g sugar per bottle, is more flavourful, and is a good alternative to pure fruit juice or drinks with artificial sweeteners. I would definitely purchase these drinks again, both were light, refreshing and natural tasting.

I really like the idea of Nuttvia Breadsticks Snackpack (£1.70), which applies yummy chocolate and hazelnut spread to the flawless formula of pre-packaged dunking snacks.  The spread in this product is made with natural sweeteners, so it has 97% less sugar than comparable sugar-based spreads.  It is also recognised by the Orangutan Alliance as palm oil free, which is really fantastic.

I wanted to love this product, and whilst the breadsticks were tasty, I thought the spread had an odd aftertaste from the alternative sweetener.  It’s not terrible, but if you are at all sensitive to sweeteners then you may not like this.

The box included a free gift sample size of LoSalt (£1.75 for 350g) an alternative seasoning with 66% less sodium than regular table, sea and rock salts. This is great for people watching their salt intake.

Kabuto Noodles Thai Green Chicken Curry (£1.99) is an easy to prepare, gluten-free rice noodle dish inspired by bold Thai flavours. I have tried and enjoyed a Kabuto Noodles product in a previous Degustabox, and was very happy to see the brand make a reappearance.  This couldn’t be easier to make:  add boiling water, wait and stir. This is delicious, with perfectly cooked noodles and a spicy, flavoursome broth. The one thing I didn’t like was the chicken, which took the form of hard little squares. The meat was unappetising and I actually picked it out after eating a couple of pieces. Overall I really like Kabuto Noodle products, but I would recommend sticking to vegetarian varieties.

Cirio (£2.29) is a new range of prepared Mediterranean dishes which can be eaten cold or hot. I received the Spelt with Black Olives, Dried Tomatoes and Capers flavour. I heated this in the microwave, and found the grains to be perfectly cooked with just the right amount of bite. This contained tons of olives. I mean, like, an unbelievable amount of olives! Not being an olive fan, I really did not enjoy the taste of this at all and could only handle two bites. My husband ate the rest but declared it far too olivey to be pleasant. I imagine some of the other flavours would be more to my liking, since the grains were a nice texture and well-seasoned.

Michel et Augustin (£1.60) are milk chocolate chip cookies filled with a creamy chocolate and hazelnut filling.

These cookies have a crumbly texture and wonderful buttery flavour. They are really tasty!

Heinz No Added Sugar Hoops (£0.75) has no artificial sweetneners, colours or flavours. This is a quick and a relatively nutritious meal for kids. I have never tried Hoops before, having grown up with SpaghettiOs, and I thought these tasted fine but with a slightly different kind of taste from the naturally derived sweetener.

Pulsin Kids’ Fruity Oat Bars Orange Choc Chip (£.59) is a fruit and oat bar made with orange oil and chocolate sweetened with xylitol (a naturally occurring sweetener that is good for your teeth).  I’m not sure what makes this a bar for children, except perhaps the adorable cartoon fox on the wrapper?

This is very tasty, with a soft texture, prominent flavour of orange and nice big chunks of chocolate.  It’s like eating a healthy version of a chocolate orange!

Hippeas Organic Chickpea Puffs (£2.29) are a light and crunchy snack that is high in fibre and protein, and a lean 91kcal per serving.

I have tried the ‘in herbs we trust’ flavoured Hippeas in a previous Degustabox and yup, they are still good, with a subtle herby flavour and delightful crisp texture. I do wish these were more flavourful, as they tend to get lost in the background when eaten with anything else.

Pip’s Real Hot Chocolate Co Real Hot Chocolate Coins (£1.50) are single servings of Belgian chocolate hot chocolate. This is another product I have tried in a previous Degustabox, but this time I received the orange flavour.

I remember last time I made this the chocolate remained lumpy and didn’t fully melt into the milk. So, this time rather than following directions and mixing the coin in with cold milk before heating, I melted the coin in a saucepan then added heated milk to stir. The drink was still lumpy! But at least it was tasty, and I really liked the festive addition of orange.

This month’s box contains two Lee Kum Kee sauce sachets: Sauce for Tomato Garlic Prawns and Sauce for Honey Garlic Spare Rib (2 x £.85), plus a bonus packet of soy sauce.  Both sauces can be used for stir fries, marinades, as a sauce mix or dressing.  I haven’t had a chance to prepare a meal using these yet, but I use Lee Kum sauces regularly and like them, so I’m looking forward to trying out these new flavours.

October’s Degustabox had some real winners.  I most enjoyed the products from Kabuto Noodles, Michel et Augustin, and The Feel Good Drinks Co.

Please be aware that Lo Salt (and it’s companion No Salt) are predominately potassium chloride. If you are like me and chronically low and do not absorb potassium, then adding this can be helpful. But if you do not need low salt diet nor need added potassium, be aware. Both TOO much and TOO little potassium has the same effect, the heart stops. I use No Salt in addition to salt because I need the additional potassium and find low levels of potassium to trigger migraines. But most people get enough potassium from their diet.
