The Book(ish) Box is a monthly subscription of literary inspired items. Every box contains a t-shirt and 3-4 other literary items. The Bookish Box now offers the option to have a YA book included in your box! When you sign up, you’ll have the option to select one of multiple box options.

This month’s theme is Bump in the Night. As October is the month that we celebrate all ghoulish and monstorous things, the theme is very much appropriate. Every item is themed after a spooky character. I received 7 items in my subscription box.

DEAL: You can save $3.50 on your first box with coupon code WELCOME or save 15% on your entire subscription with coupon code HELLO.

The first item in this month’s box is a iron patch inspired the cult classic Buffy the Vampire Slayer and made by Two Ghouls Press. Two Ghouls Press was started by Daniel Watkins and Elise Brunkel. It is an shop with eerie themed items (great for Halloween). Okay, so I don’t think there are many of you out there who have not heard of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. You either watched the movie with Luke Perry and Kristy Swanson from 1992 or the television series starring Sarah Michelle Gellar (1997-2003). Which ever is your favorite, you got a good dose of those ghoulish vampires and so so acting (LOL).

My next item was created by Bookish Box. It is a Dracula coffin shaped ring. This ring is adjustable. The center is a black stone with silver stones on the edge. This is a perfect accessory to any vampire/vampiress costume this Halloween.

My next item is inspired by my favorite poet Edgar Allan Poe and his poem “The Raven.” It is a scarf in a light blue color with ravens all over it. Edgar Allan Poe was known for his poems and short stories filled with mystery and macobre. Poe was born  in 1809 and had published his first works by 1829. Who doesn’t know the poem  The Raven?

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore—
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
“‘Tis some visiter,” I muttered, “tapping at my chamber door—
Only this and nothing more.”

My next items are a Frankenstein bookmark and a Buffy vinyl sticker all by The Bookish Box. Frankenstein is a Novel by Mary Shelley. Most believe that Frankenstein is the name of the monster but it is actually the name of the scientist who creates the monster. In the novel, scientist Victor Frankenstein, creates a grotesque monster from parts from dead bodies in an unorthodox experiment. The monster tries to fit in with society but is not well received which then causes the monster to take revenge on Frankenstein. Very good novel in my opinion, especially from a 18 year old woman back in 1818. Not many woman authors then.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a cult classic. It is about a young girl that is the latest in a long line of woman known as vampire slayers. Slayers are chosen by fate to battle vampire, demons, and other such creatures of darkness. Buffy doesn’t want anything to do with it and wants to live a normal life but through out the series she learns to embrace her destiny. Buffy receives help vanquishing these creatures from a Watcher and a group of trusted friends that is called the “Scooby Gang.”

This month’s shirt was designed with inspiration from The Raven Cycles Series by Maggie Stiefvater. The quote on the shirt is “The trees speak Latin.” There are 4 books in this series. The Raven Cycle follows the story of Blue Sargent, Richard Gansey III, Adam Parrish, Ronan Lynch, and Noah Czerny as they attempt to find the sleeping Welsh king Glendower.

If you haven’t tried out the shirts, you should. Make a bold statement for literacy with these comfy and well designed shirts.

I upgraded my box to include the book! This month’s book is This Darkness Mine by Mindy McGinnis. This one is a psychological thriller. I have only gotten a few chapters in but I am quite excited on where this book is heading. This is about young high school girl who finds out a dark secret after things begin to mysteriously happen without her knowledge… she had a twin! That’s all I am going to say for now, you just got read the book to get all the juicy details.

Sasha Stone knows her place—first-chair clarinet, top of her class, and at the side of her Oxford-wearing boyfriend. She’s worked her entire life to ensure her path to Oberlin Conservatory as a star musician is perfectly paved.

But suddenly there’s a fork in the road in the shape of Isaac Harver. Her body shifts toward him when he walks by, and her skin misses his touch even though she’s never known it. Why does he act like he knows her so well—too well—when she doesn’t know him at all?

Well, thanks for reading my review. I am off to read more books. Keep reading and adding pages to the story of your life.

Tell me what you thought about this month’s Bookish Box!
