Birchbox Man is a monthly grooming and lifestyle subscription for men. With Birchbox Man Plus you’ll receive 5 sample items that are smaller versions of what you can order from the Birchbox site, plus a lifestyle item that is full-size. Boxes are $20 per month. There’s also an option to get just the grooming samples for $10 per month.

This month’s Birchbox Man Plus had a nice mix of kind-to-your-skin items, and the “Plus” was something I really needed.

The theme for November 2017 is “A Change of Classics.”

Longtime subscribers have discovered many great products, adopting their favorites into their daily routine. This box encourages us to shake it up a bit and always be willing to try something a bit different.

The card explains the items and lets me know how much the items would cost if purchased in full size at their regular price. Full size versions of all box items are available on the Birchbox site. You can check out your box at birchbox.com/mybox.

There is also a card announcing the opening of the Birchbox Holiday Store. I can’t wait!

It’s open as of November 2, and it has something for everyone on your list.

Subscribers are given a sample choice opportunity via email/your account to choose a lifestyle item. Here’s what I got for my November 2017 box. My lifestyle selection was the full-size Billy Jealousy deodorant.

Billy Jealousy Funk Buddy Deodorant ($18): This is my lifestyle item. A gentle deodorant with witch hazel and cucumber extract, so it’s like a skin treatment for your pits!

I love the scent of this – it isn’t unscented, but it is very light. It is slightly botanical, with a bit of a witch hazel astringent kick, so it smells very clean and fresh.

DTRT Dear Matt Lotion ($4.18): A sage and peppermint infused oil control lotion. It says that it instantly “mattifies” skin, which I take to mean removing shine and excess oil. The botanicals give it a lovely fresh scent.
Brickell’s Men’s Products 3-in-1 Wash Evergreen ($2.13): This is an all-purpose cleanser for your body. It is designed for use on hair, face, and body, with amino acids, vitamin E, and aloe to nourish each. It has a pleasant piney scent that is really fresh and invigorating without being overpowering or smelling like Pinesol.

Level Naturals Vanilla + Charcoal Bar Soap ($8): This bar uses the detoxifying properties of charcoal to draw out impurities and neutralize odors. It is balanced with a soothing and cloying vanilla, creating a bar that feels both cleansing and soft.

The charcoal is a powerful purifying agent, but it is used sparingly in the bar, allowing it to retain an overall mild composition.

Perry Ellis Eau De Toilette Vaporisateur Spray ($0.96): A sweet and bright EDT that is classy and versatile. It remains light and slightly powdery — a very elegant fragrance that is in no way brutish or musky in nature.

Bergamot dominates the opening, following by supporting botanicals. The geranium and rosemary are a potent presence, discernible in the expansive and slightly powdery body of the fragrance. The intersection of various botanicals at the heart of the fragrance creates a vetiver-like sweetness, thought the ingredient is not mentioned among the EDT’s main notes. The dry-down is simultaneously sweet, dry, and distinctly sandalwood in its finish.

Plant Brooklyn Superfacial Face Oil Normal Skin ($65 fullsize 1oz): This face oil combines organic oils and extracts to infuse your skin with rejuvenating antioxidants.

The mixture combines organic oils with a high absorption rate, so your skin becomes well-moisturized and nourished without any oily residue.

This was nice collection, and, despite the theme, I found the items to be more useful than unconventional. The oils and cleansers are versatile and well-suited to any skin care regimen. I love the charcoal-infused soap, and my lifestyle item has been added to my dopp kit immediately. Birchbox samples have always been a great value on a per-ounce price comparison basis, and the added lifestyle item is a similar bargain — my current selection added $18 of retail value for a mere $10 add-on fee.
