My Puppy Box is a one-time gift box full of educational materials that teaches kids about dogs, responsible ownership, and a lot more. There are three My Puppy Boxes available – the My Puppy Teachers, Families, & Shelters Box ($29.95), the regular My Puppy Box ($49.95), and the My Puppy Rescue Box ($54.95).

A percentage of your My Puppy Box purchase will be donated to a Rescue or Shelter of your choice.

This is a review of the regular My Puppy Box (age 7-12). It is designed primarily for kids getting their first puppy (or just wanting to learn about caring for their dog).

Everything in the box!

This box is perfect for us – we brought home a new puppy in June.

Puppy Plush Toy – A cute companion while you learn about puppy care.

Soft and squishy too.

My Dog A Kids’ Guide To Keeping A Happy & Healthy Pet By Michael J. Rosen

A primer, an owner’s manual, a field guide, and more, My Dog! is the complete book for every child who has a dog―whether it’s a brand-new puppy or adopted mutt, or a beloved pooch who’s been in the family for years. And it couldn’t be more kid-friendly, with its customizable cover (paste in a picture of your dog), tabbed chapters, and a pull-out dry-erase dog care chart.

Written by Michael J Rosen, author of Kids’ Best Dog Book, and dubbed a “fidosopher” by The Washington Post, My Dog! covers everything from the basics of handling, feeding, and grooming to history, lore, and the kinds of fun facts kids will always remember (dogs have a sense of smell a million times better than ours; the oldest dog on record, Bluey, lived to be 29). It tells kids how to train their dogs, with illustrations―including action commands like Sit, Stay, Come, and Go to Your Place, and behavioral commands like Speak and Thank-You. There are the simple health checks kids can do. A How to Speak Dog section to insure that kids and dogs remain best friends―including why a raised, wagging tail doesn’t always mean “I’m happy,” and the important difference between a Yelp! and a Yowl! Even a recipe for Carob “Cocoa” for kids and dogs to bond over after a brisk winter walk.

Included with the book is a field guide to 75 breeds of the most popular and family-friendly dogs kids are likely to meet―each illustrated with a gorgeous full-color photograph and profiled with essential facts, including behavioral insights that make it an invaluable guide to choosing a family pet.

This book is the manual that doesn’t come with your dog when you got one. It includes guides to different dog breeds, a dog care chart, and write-in pages where you can keep track of your dog’s activities!

The book is spring-bound, so it’s easier to turn the pages.

Here’s a guide for your dog’s balanced diet. The list is in bullets, making it easy to read.

The pictures are high quality. They provide a perfect representation for each chapter of the book! The book covers every aspect of caring for your pet’s well-being, including food, play, training, grooming, and interacting with other dogs and people.

Our daughter absolutely loved this book and has been actually reading it, digesting all the information, and putting it to work – and has put Dean on a new training regimen! (Parent Tip – 8 going on 9 is a GREAT age for a new puppy!)

The Puppy Place Goldie By Ellen Miles ($4.99) – The Puppy Place is a series of books where the writer, Ellen Miles, gives different personalities to each dog that the Peterson family fosters.

The Petersons want to search for a forever home for Goldie. The back cover gives a piece of what’s inside the book.

The book doesn’t have any illustrations inside, but the story is interesting enough to keep a young reader hooked.

Be A Dog’s Bestfriend: A Safety Guide For Kids By Renee Payne & Jennifer Gladysz ($9.95) – This book is a story written in the voice of a ten year old girl, Emma, who knows a lot of information about how to safely interact with dogs.

The back cover shows a little snippet about the book.

The pages are in black and white, with lots of illustrations, so you could actually have some fun coloring them in, too!

Each page shows how to properly take care of dogs and also includes the do’s and don’ts of being a dog-owner. It has lots of good advice about how to approach and interact with dogs to avoid behaviors that may provoke unwanted reactions in untrained dogs.

This helped our daughter understand the crate (although Dean, like Lindy, was so not into it, and we have a baby pen for when we’re out!).

I Love Dogs Activity Book ($6.96) – The contents of this book are all pooch-inspired activities.

You will see a glimpse of the activities on the back cover. Everything from word searches to coloring.

There are step by step instructions on how to draw several breeds of dog.

Plus several journalling pages for kids to fill with words and reasons why they love dogs.

Also included are fun facts at the bottom of some pages. It’s great because kids will surely learn a lot of new stuff from these!

Hands On Fun Colored Pencils – This is a 12 colored pencil set in vivid colors.

Being creative is easier with the aid of these coloring tools. It contains thick leads that provides smooth coverage for coloring. The set has two shades of brown, which is handy for coloring dogs — it could’ve used a few more and some grays for this particular activity (we have gray dogs!) but they are nice pencils.

My Puppy Box is indeed a wonderfully curated dog-themed box for children. We love the educational tools included in the curation, especially the books that provide an introduction to taking care of dogs. This box is great for gifting to any family welcoming a dog into their home! Our daughter is pretty much obsessed with everything that came in the box – the books are already well loved and many pictures of dogs have been drawn, and hours of training have been instilled in our puppy. What a great set!
