Play! by Sephora is a monthly subscription box that brings only the best and exclusive Sephora beauty and makeup samples. The subscription costs $10 per month, and you’ll get 5 deluxe beauty products, playlists, a fragrance bonus item, plus coupons you can use when you visit in-store.

Your subscription also entitles you to PLAY! Date meetups if your store participates. I don’t even have a Sephora (not even a JCP one) but this box totally excites me even without those experiences – I love the high end brands every month for just $10.

That little card is a PLAY! Pass that will get you 50 extra Beauty Insider points with a purchase from the box – in-store only.

The theme is “Complexion Companions.”

This fold out poster shows a list of all the items included in this box plus beauty trivia and tips. You can access all of the information and also watch the videos right on the Sephora site or use the app to scan the sheet for more info!

Everything in my box!  See the spoilers for other variations here.

Without mentioning the lack of fragrance bonus last month – it’s back!

The pouches are cute. Back to cotton fabric this month – what are you using yours for? I feel it’s probably time for Sephora to mix up this item even more.

Urban Decay Optical Illusion Complexion Primer ($5)

This is quite a thick primer! It uses a blurring complex to instantly reduce the look of fine lines and pores. It’s a brand new product and I love it! I think it provides the ultimate foundation canvas.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation ($6.81) Yay for 40 shades! Of course in a subscription box they’re only sending out a few – but this is a great way to see if the formula works for you.  This is a lightweight formula with decent coverage. My bottle was a leaky so I probably wouldn’t keep it around too long. It wasn’t amazing coverage for me, but it was good. What I really loved was the no powder required setting of this foundation. The finish was really unique!

Above the foundation I actually swatched the primer, if you can tell!

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Marine Boosting Mist ($2.80) A facial mist that’s new to me – score! I love facial mists and first off I give the sample bottle’s sprayer an A+. I’m thinking of saving it for makeup setting sprays that have non-misting sprayers (after I use this sample up, which won’t be long, because I really do love!). This multiple duty mist is a four-in-one primer, makeup setting spray, hydrating mist, and skin refresher.  It says it’s made with antioxidant-rich algae to help boost skin but the orange peel oil in the formula really comes through for a refreshing mist.

dr. brandt PoreDermabrasion Pore Perfecting Exfoliator ($7.25) An exfoliator and pore perfector in one! It contains Micro-size Aluminum Oxide Crystals that help in deep cleaning the pores, as well as Caviar Lime Extract that improves exfoliation. Other ingredients include Salicylic Acid and Lentil Seed Extract. This has been in quite a few boxes this month but I still love it – and when I have extra I use it on my neck and back of my hands! It’s a fabulous product.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Skin Booster ($15.38) A makeup friendly skin serum!  This one uses hyaluronic acid and argan oil extract to plump and smooth skin and is designed to be applied pre-primer.

I wouldn’t use this in place of a product with active ingredients, but you can also mix it in a foundation for a dewier look.

Tory Burch Bel Azur Eau de Parfum Spray ($2.88)

This scent is designed to evoke the shimmering golden sun over blue waters. Citrusy bergamot and neroli play over earthy and water tones. It has notes of Bergamot, Mandarin, Lemon, Neroli, Pink Peppercorn, Peony, Patchouli Heart, Vetiver Heart, and Cedarwood Oil. At first it was all patchouli but settled down to a hint of citrus over aqua scents.

What a fun concept for this month’s box! I loved the skin prep to finish theme (hey, next month can we explore setting powders??).  No color cosmetics and not everyone may have loved the foundation (mine happened to match) but it’s a great way to try all the products individually and see how they worked together.  The total value of my box this month was around $40.

Are you a Sephora Play subscriber? What did you think of the box this month??
