The theme for the October 2017 OwlCrate Jr. box is WITCHES & WIZARDS!

DEAL: Sign up for your 1, 3, or 6-month subscription or gift with the code CURSES15 to save 15%!

October’s book pick is an epic fantasy –from a very important middle grade author!– that explores a brand new world of magic!

The information card cleverly conveys a bit about everything in the box. The book of spells theme for the card is too cute!

Everything in the October OwlCrate JR. box!

Skull Book Button Pin. The perfect Halloween decor for my daughter’s book tote! It’s both bookish and a little spooky.

Fizzy Fairy Apothecary Wizard of Oz Bath Bomb. This Wizard of Oz inspired bath bomb came with an emerald green pouch and an info card listing all the ingredients.

The bath bomb has a fruity scent, which is mango and guava with green melon and pineapple. It’s perhaps more appropriate for summer than fall, but my daughter likes it nonetheless. Also, this bath bomb is cruelty-free and even the glitters used are biodegradable!

Witchy Zipper Pouch. This Shakespeare’s Macbeth inspired pouch is perfect for keeping pens and pencils. You can just picture a trio of witches from the novel chanting in unison. Both sides are decorated with the same pattern and constructed of sturdy canvas.

Black Cat Pen. This kawaii pen is an instant hit with my daughter. So adorable.

It says Kuro-chan!

Funko Harry Potter Pocket Pop! Keychain ($5.98) The most exciting thing we got from this month’s Owlcrate – besides a new book, of course!

At the back of the pouch are the keychain variations.

We got Professor Snape! The detail actually very good, considering how tiny he is.

It perfectly captures the professor’s signature long, greasy black hair. Slytherin, rejoice!

All of the items relating to this month’s book selection.

The Wizards of Once by Cressida Cowell ($11.46) A new story from the author of How to Train Your Dragon! Our kids love the HTTYD franchise and books about wizardry, so this one is sure to be a hit.

The instant New York Times and International Bestseller!

In the first book of a new series by the bestselling author of How to Train Your Dragon, the warring worlds of Wizards and Warriors collide in a thrilling and enchanting adventure.

Once there were Wizards, who were Magic, and Warriors, who were not. But Xar, son of the King of Wizards, can’t cast a single spell. And Wish, daughter of the Warrior Queen, has a banned magical object of her own. When they collide in the wildwood, on the trail of a deadly witch, it’s the start of a grand adventure that just might change the fabric of their worlds.

With Cressida Cowell’s trademark wit, and the same stunning combination of action, adventure, humor, heart, and incredible artwork that made How to Train Your Dragon a beloved bestselling franchise, The Wizards of Once will transport and enchant readers.

Some stylized illustrations of the story’s two heroes, Xar and Wish.

And our first glimpse of some of the monsters, illustrated in detail. Scary!

Other illustrations are found all over the book, making it more interesting for a young reader.

My daughter is looking forward to reading this enchanting adventure story! We can tell there is tons of magic and adventure in it.

The Wizards of Once Feather Bookmark. A unique feather-shaped bookmark, which fits the book’s theme very well.

“Could this really be the feather of the witch?,” presumably a quote from the book.

A signed bookplate from the author is also included. Awesome!

I love that the letter from the author conveys a bit about the origin and inspiration for the story. How cool is that?

And as always, the owl at the bottom wishes you to enjoy your adventure!

The theme next month is CURSES!

Looks like more magical mayhem is in store next month!

Owl Crate is always fun, enjoyable, and appropriate for young readers. My daughter loves everything in this box but her fave bookish item is definitely the Harry Potter keychain. If you also have a young reader at home, this subscription is worth getting for all the high-quality items and interesting books they send. We’re already excited for next month!
