Japan Crate is a monthly subscription box that helps you “experience the excitement of Japan every month through fun candy & snacks.” They have three subscription levels that start at $12 a month and offer 1, 3, 6, or 12-month plans that auto-renew at the end of the term. Japan Crate aims to send candy that is fun and exclusively available in Japan.

The past couple of months have featured boxes other than the traditional red, and I like it!

DEAL: Save $3 on your first regular or premium crate with coupon code HELLO.

There are 3 different subscription levels available: The Mini includes 5 items, the Original includes those items PLUS another 5 items, and the Premium includes those 10 items PLUS another 5 items. This month I am reviewing the Premium box!

I always think this is one of the prettiest boxes I get, so colorful and bright!

There was a Manga-zine that lists the contents of the box and other info.

Japan Crate lists the snacks for all three box sizes plus gives a little info on what’s going on in Japan that month.

Everything in the box! My 14-year-old daughter especially loves this box and helped me test the snacks.

Halloween Shimi Choco Corn is a type of puffed corn cereal covered in chocolate that is absorbed into the puff to give it a super cool texture. My family loves these. Halloween Ponsuke are sweet and salty crackers that are easy to pop in your mouth. I’m not sure what the green flecks are – seaweed?

Halloween Umaibo: Corn Potage is like a giant corn puff that tastes like sweet corn soup! I find it crazy that corn soup is a popular flavor of snack!

Pumpkin Pops are lollipops that look like a jack-o-lantern but taste like grape candy! Hi-Chew Halloween comes in strawberry, grape, and green apple flavors and are chewy, I don’t usually eat candies like this so I’m not sure what to compare it to. Those ones I take from my kids Halloween bag and throw away every year, um, Laffy Taffy? If you spent thousands of dollars on braces then you would probably do the same thing too.

Happy Halloween!

Maple Butterbeer Ramune Candy are like a combo of caramel, milk, and soda pop. I wasn’t expecting them to be kind of creamy, but they melt quickly on the tongue. We received Puré Grape Gummy but flavors may vary. This little sweet and sour candy had a cute heart shape and was covered in sugar. There were 5 gummies total in the little pack.

Yum, I love bonchi! Bonchi Senbei are crispy, crunchy rice cakes that are doused with a sweet and salty soy sauce. I love them!

Koala’s March Halloween Edition are crispy pillow shaped cookies with a creamy chocolate flavored center and feature pictures of koalas stamped on them.

This month the koalas are dressed in costumes. I think.

Okashi No Mizuame is the DIY kit of the month. There are three packets of candy slime, a mixing tray, and a stirring implement. Mix and match to your heart’s content! I had a taste and all I can say is this is thick drinkable sugar. It’s like eating corn syrup. Not much DIY involved, but maybe it helps teach kids about mixing primary colors?

Monster Stamp Cider is a cider flavored candy that has a lot of dye, enough so that once you put it in your mouth you can take it back out and stamp stuff with it. Gross. Black Thunder Halloween Bar reminds me of a graham cracker covered with chocolate, or a caramel-free Twix.

Cider flavor is similar to 7-Up or ginger ale.

Chupa Chups Exotic Tropic come in three different flavors and my wrapper showed some blue and purple berries, acai blueberry perhaps?

Kit Kat Mini Caramel Pudding I had my 7 year old friend help me test these exclusive Kit Kats! They are covered in caramel flavored white chocolate and are so goooood! Colton agreed and said they were the best Kit Kats he has ever tasted.

Subscribers could receive a treat (Lipton Crème Brulee Milk Tea) or a trick (Shijimi Clam Miso Soup.) Karina was sad to see that we received the trick. I think this would probably be best served warm but I’m going to share it with someone who has more adventurous tastes!

I loved the cute Halloween packaging on this month’s treats. Most of these items have been sampled before but the packaging is perfect for this time of year. Some of the items were hard to find, some I could only find in their regular packaging, and some were hard to pin down. The Kit Kats were delicious and I was happy to have a full bag of them to share with my friend, and Japan Crate sure got me with the tricky clam soup drink.

What item do you want to try from this month’s Japan Crate? Let me know in the comments!
