This box is really decorated inside and out. While the outside has little food items on it, the inside is full of bright green words. Plastic wrap and brown butcher paper keep all the contents safe.

The information sheet provides details of all the products in September’s Degustabox.

The products of the month for September are from Latin American Kitchen by Santa Maria, a range of flavoured microwaveable rices and cook-in sauces. Each box contains one of five flavours of rice and one of five flavours of sauce. I got Coconut & Chilli Rice (£1.85) and Brazilian Xinxim Peanut Sauce (£1.85). The rice was nice and fluffy, just a bit chewy, and mildly spiced. The rice paired nicely with the sauce, which I prepared using chicken thighs, onions and green peppers. It was very good! The sauce was rich and thick, with just the right combination of nuttiness, tang and spice.

Green & Black’s Velvet Edition 70% dark chocolate (£1.99) is a delicate and smooth blend of finest Ghanian cocoa and sweet Madagascan vanilla. As a fan of Green & Blacks who stockpiles their 70% and 85% Organic bars, I had high hopes for this. My expectations were met, this chocolate is excellent, with a rich cocoa taste and unbelievably smooth texture. Loved this!

Nestle Cheerios Oat Crisp (£2.49) combines the delicious taste of Cheerios with crunchy whole grain flakes. Like original Cheerios, it is heart healthy, and also high in fibre and low in saturated fat. Speaking as someone who likes to mix different cereals in one bowl for a variety of tastes and textures, I thought this was super yummy.

Knorr Concentrated Stock (£2.20) is a rich beef liquid stock in a convenient bottle. Knorr is a good quality stock, perfect for imparting extra depth of flavour to everything from sauces to casseroles. I like that this product comes in a bottle – it’s so much more convenient than stock cubes or pots because you use as much or as little as you need without any waste.

Virtue Energy Water (2 x £1.35) is a sparkling water beverage with natural fruit flavours, no sugar, no calories, no sweeteners and the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee. My Degustabox contained one can of Lemon & Lime flavour and one can of Berries flavour. These did not taste very good, just like water with a slight aftertaste of sodium bicarbonate.

San Miguel Gluten Free beer (£2.00 or £9.00 per 6-pack) is a gluten free version of the popular lager. This is a mild and easy-to-drink beer that tastes just like the original.

Mentos Mint Mix Sharing Pouch (£1.19) is a refreshing mix of peppermint and spearmint Mentos. Who doesn’t love Mentos? These chewy little mints are great – I prefer the spearmint ones!

This month’s box comes with either Dream Ancient Grains or Dream Rice Quinoa (£1.60). These are a plant based milk alternative with added calcium and vitamins. I received the quinoa product. It has a slightly creamy consistency which is similar to milk – not too thin and not too thick. The taste is quite nice but the flavour has a distinct ‘cereal’ quality to it. You can really tell this is made with rice and quinoa!

Wild Planet Albacore Wild Tuna Steaks (£3.49) is 100% pole and line caught, ranked no. 1 in the US by Greenpeace for sustainability. My husband tried this in a tuna salad sandwich and absolutely loved it. It is impressively high quality tuna and worth the premium price.

The box comes with a full-value voucher for Seriously Spreadable Squares (£1.75) made with extra mature Scottish cheddar, perfect for lunchboxes or a quick snack. Unfortunately, I failed to get a photo of the voucher…

Green’s Egg Custard Mix (£0.69) is easy to make, just heat with milk on the stovetop and pour into a pre-prepared pastry crust to set. Or, you can use it to make bread & butter pudding. I am not an egg custard person, so this particular mix wasn’t for me, but Green’s makes a wide range of other products that I’d love to try, such as tiramisu or chocolate mousse.

September’s non-alcoholic box contains a Miso Tasty Original Ramen Noodle Kit. The kit contains 2 portions of noodles, white miso paste and seaweed garnish to prepare light and savoury Japanese miso noodle soup. This was really quick and easy to make – it takes about 7 minutes to prepare plus some time to boil the water- and is quite tasty, with a pleasing miso flavour. My only criticism is that it doesn’t make enough broth.

September’s Degustabox is a solid one, with Cheerios Oat Crisp, Wild Planet Tuna and, of course, Green & Black’s Velvet Edition as the highlights.
