The Book(ish) Box is a monthly subscription of literary inspired items. Every box contains a t-shirt and 3-4 other literary items.

The Bookish Box now offers the option to have a YA book included in your box! When you sign up, you’ll have the option to select one of multiple box options.

This month’s theme is Dystopian. Dystopian is defined as relating to or denoting an imagined place or state in which everything is unpleasant or bad. The items in the box represent literature about dystopian societies.

I received 7 items in my subscription box.

DEAL: You can save $3.50 on your first box with coupon code WELCOME or save 15% on your entire subscription with coupon code HELLO.

The first item in this month’s box is a Tea Towel designed with a quote from Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. The quote reads “A river of words flowed between us.” Ready Player One is about a dystopian world where the people there use virtual reality to escape the real world. There are puzzles in this virtual world that need to be solved and the main character of the story Wade is determined to solve to get the ultimate prize. This book is being turned to a motion picture and will be released soon. Would escaping to a virtual world be the best thing? Are you ready Player One?

My next item was created by Bookish Box. It is a notebook with the haunting lyrics from the song Hanging Tree from the  motion picture Hunger Games. The motion picture was based off the dystopian world created by Suzanne Collins. “Are you, Are you coming to the tree? Wear a necklace of hope, side by side with me. Stranger things did happen there, no stranger would it be if we met at midnight in the hanging tree.” I often listen to this song and love its haunting melody. Did you know Jennifer Lawrence actually sung this song for the album? In case you did not know or have been hiding in a cave somewhere, Hunger Games is about a society where, to keep the people in line, the ruling government holds annual game that pit different districts’ children against each other and the sole survivor is declared the winner. There is one character who stands up against the tyranny and becomes the face for the revolt for the people.

My next item goes right along with the previous item. It is a choker necklace inspired by The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. In the story, Katniss ( the main character) is dressed up in the latest fashion by amazing designer during the ceremonies of the Hunger Games. This choker has a charm of her favorite weapon, the bow and arrow. The strip is of a velvet texture. I can’t believe chokers are making a comeback. Do you like them?

My next item is a print card with a quote from the novel 1984 by George Orwell. I believe I read this book in high school. 1984 was written in 1948 is a chilling prophecy of the the future. It is about government tyranny, perpetual war, and public manipulation. Did you read this book? What did you think of it?

My next item is something useful for those puffy, sore eyes after a long night of reading. It is a face mask. This face mask can be heated or chilled (user preference is chilled). Also included wias a code for a free audio book from AudioBooks. So now I can listen to the book while resting my weary eyes.

No, I am not sharing. LOL!

This month’s shirt was designed by Dorothy Reads and inspired by The Darkest Minds series by Alexandra Bracken. The series I have not read yet but from the breakdown, they look very interesting. The story starts when a young girl wakes up to find out that she is somehow different and has gained powers. She is then locked away by her parents and sent to a concentration camp.

The shirt is always comfy. However, I found that the words were hard to read due to the colors used for the lettering. I believe it would have stood out more with a different color like white or black.

I upgraded my box to include the book! This month’s book is All Rights Reserved by Gregory Scott Katsoulis. I am just starting the book. The book is about a world where everything is copyrighted, patented, or trademarked. One girl selects to remain silent rather than pay to speak and this defiant behavior threatens to unravel society.

Also when you receive the book you also receive and an autograph from the author. I’ve been collecting them all.

Speth Jime is anxious to deliver her Last Day speech and celebrate her transition into adulthood. The moment she turns fifteen, Speth must pay for every word she speaks (“Sorry” is a flat ten dollars and a legal admission of guilt), for every nod ($0.99/sec), for every scream ($0.99/sec) and even every gesture of affection. She’s been raised to know the consequences of falling into debt, and can’t begin to imagine the pain of having her eyes shocked for speaking words that she’s unable to afford.

But when Speth’s friend Beecher commits suicide rather than work off his family’s crippling debt, she can’t express her shock and dismay without breaking her Last Day contract and sending her family into Collection. Backed into a corner, Speth finds a loophole: rather than read her speech—rather than say anything at all—she closes her mouth and vows never to speak again. Speth’s unexpected defiance of tradition sparks a media frenzy, inspiring others to follow in her footsteps, and threatens to destroy her, her family and the entire city around them.

Well, thanks for reading my review. I am off to read more books. Keep reading and adding pages to the story of your life.

Tell me what you thought about this month’s Bookish Box!

Good review. Thanks for explaining some of the new terms/topics. I read 1984 many many many moons ago and can only remember the cameras in the parks and the signs “Big Brother is Watching You.” We already have the cameras in a lot of places don’t we?
