Birchbox is a beauty sampling subscription service that sends 5 new items each month so you can try before you buy. Birchbox is $10 a month and you can choose a monthly sample during selection time, let Birchbox decide, or pick a pre-curated box. Birchbox recently rolled out some new subscription options such as Skip a Month and receive points instead; choose a Spotlight Box; or Pick One, Skip One. This month I am reviewing the Spotlight Box, and this was one of several choices available for the upgraded $15 subscription price (and is different from the usual curated box that is still only $10 for subscribers.) This subscription option is still in Beta mode – which Birchbox just canceled yesterday!

Want to know exactly what’s coming? Swap your personalized box for one of several curated boxes filled with samples that address specific beauty needs (i.e. frizzy hair or oily skin). Try out something you’ve had your eye on—or give a new trend a go! These options will change every month.

I picked the Spotlight on: Customer Favorites option because I really wanted two of the items listed!

The information card gives brief details on each item as well as the price if you were to buy the full size, plus a beauty tip.

This box was very similar in appearance to my regular Birchbox. I have received most of these items before but a couple were new-to-me.

Everything in my Spotlight on: Customer Favorites box!

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara in Black ($8) was one of the main reasons I chose this box!

I’ve used this mascara before and love how it makes my lashes stand out, but more importantly, it doesn’t smudge or melt by the end of the day.

The brush head is supposed to grab each hair and curl them up, like a set of hair rollers. Provitamin B5 conditions lashes.

Bumble & bumble. Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil ($11.76) I skipped the rinse-out conditioner and spritzed a bit of this on my hands before running through my fine hair. It was more creamy than oily and didn’t leave my hair greasy or flat. Coconut, argan, macadamia, and sweet almond are a few of the oils mentioned in the ingredients.

thisworks deep sleep pillow spray ($1.93) has a lovely herby scent and features relaxing lavender and chamomile and earthy sweet patchouli. Just spray a couple times over your pillow before bed and breathe deeply. Hopefully, you will be off to dreamland in a short time.

Jouer Cosmetics Lip Enhancer ($7.27) is supposed to miraculously enhance lips and leave them fabulously full. It had a silky feel, like super moist lip gloss, and left my lips shiny but not noticeably fuller. I didn’t notice any scent or flavor.

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser ($6.90) & Muslin Cloth ($3.75) was another item that I have tried and enjoyed so I was happy to see it in the box. I used my regular oil cleanser first and then rubbed this stuff all over my face. I rinsed the muslin cloth in warm water and used it to remove every last trace of makeup and daily grime. The cloth is slightly exfoliating while the cleanser has the bracing scent of eucalyptus.

I really like that Birchbox takes several beauty concerns and curates a box to help with those needs. My Spotlight on: Customer Favorites box had a nice variety of products and hit just about all of the major beauty areas, such as hair care, skincare, and makeup. The value for this box was around $39.61, which is more than double the price paid for the box. There are boxes that provide more bang for your buck for $15, however, at least you get to choose the spotlight box you desire out of several different selections, which is a plus.
