September’s box is Hello New Leaf.
Hello, New Leaf! It’s time to recharge, refresh, and refine. Inside this box you’ll find a few of our faves that are sure to give you a beauty boost this fall.
The information card gives brief details on each item, and there’s a $3 off $15 coupon too.
The card reminds you that you can find the full-sized version at Target.com/beautybox.
Everything in the box. The September Target Beauty Your New Basics Box was $7.
up&up Premium Cotton Rounds ($0.05) This almost felt a little cheap – just two rounds. Is it enough to convince you to buy the store brand? Maybe. I think this should have been 7 or 14 rounds, or at least enough to use with the micellar water.
Sensodyne ProNamel Strong & Bright ($1.60) Perfect travel size!
This sulfate-free toothpaste is designed to strengthen your tooth enamel and protect against everyday acids.
NIVEA In-Shower Body Lotion ($1.10) This in-shower lotion is advertised for very dry skin, but I didn’t find it super hydrating. You apply it in the shower and rinse it off, so it’s good to avoid a greasy feel. One thing I have to note is that it’s paraben-free, unlike some of its competitors, so I was happy to see that.
Simple Micellar Water ($1.27) Micellar water is a great makeup remover that doesn’t really need rinsed, so it’s great for that purpose, but over the past year I’ve found that for real cleansing, I prefer to follow with a foamy or gel cleanser. This is still a great part of my cleansing routine and it’s not harsh.
AcureUltra Hydrating Shampoo ($1.25) This repairing shampoo uses organic argan oil, argan extract, CoQ10, organic sea buckthorn oil and organic pumpkin seed oil.
Acure Ultra-Hydrating Conditioner ($1.25) This combo made my hair soft without weighing it down – perfect for my fine, flat hair, but I’ve also heard it worked well for thicker/coarser hair. I love the Acure philosophy and their price point – a great natural, easily accessible brand.
Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb Jar ($1.76) I tried a foil packet of this last month.
Here’s what I wrote in my Amazon sample box review: I happen to have some Belif Aqua Bomb on my desk, so I compared. The Garnier version is thicker, and it’s semi-heavily fragranced. This is a great drugstore item, but I’d buy the Belif every time (also my face tingled when I used the Garnier).
COVERGIRL Total Tease Mascara ($7.99) here’s all the value for the box! If you want to check out a new mascara, you can get this one for a dollar less than retail and everything else is free.
The mascara can stand up upside down!
And it has a totally wacky wand. The end part is perfect for getting those tiny lashes. This wasn’t my favorite mascara but it was fine for every day use.
I calculated a value of about $16 for this month’s box – which is over two times the cost. Lately it seems as though there’s been one hero item that carries the value of Target Beauty Boxes – if you like it, buy the box, because you’ll get the hero for less than cost and everything else is a bonus. You might not be thrilled if you weren’t interested in the big item. I can’t say no to mascara, so this was a good box overall.
However… Target originally advertised this box with really specific sizes, including a full-size Nivea and a 2 oz toothpaste, and slightly larger sizes for the shampoo & conditionerand a specific value of $35. This box is half the value as advertised. If you’ve already purchased, you might consider opening a chat with Target regarding a resolution!
