Play! by Sephora is a monthly subscription box that brings only the best and exclusive Sephora beauty and makeup samples. The subscription costs $10 per month, and you’ll get 5 deluxe beauty products, playlists, a fragrance bonus item, plus coupons you can use when you visit in-store.

Everything arrived packed in a bag, preventing items from rolling around in the box. I’ve thought about grabbing my friends for a weekend glamping trip, but we’ve never done it. Although the pool and drinks on info packet are definitely my idea of “roughing” it.

Don’t forget about your PLAY! Pass. It gets you 50 extra Beauty Insider points with a purchase from the box (in-store only). Your subscription also entitles you to PLAY! Date meetups, if your store participates.

Beauty Staycation is our July theme. This month we’re getting beauty tips aimed to keep us looking fresh whatever our travel destination.

The fold out poster shows a list of all the items included in this box plus product/brand trivia and beauty tips. You can access all of the information and also watch the videos right on the Sephora site or use the app to scan the sheet for more info!

Everything in my box! My variation was box 072. Click here to see variant items in other boxes!

IT Cosmetics | Superhero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara ($13.30): Sadly, I took after my mom in the eyelash department and am always on the hunt for a product that can lengthen and volumize. My go-to for years has been tarte’s Light’s, Camera, Lashes… However, I think I found a new fave. This formula makes a noticeable difference in my lashes with just a single coat. Plus, it doesn’t clump, but actually covers each lash individually for a clean look.

fresh | Rose Face Mask ($9.39): As it states on the jar, this gel mask is infused with rose petals to hydrate and tone skin. Too bad for me because I have an aversion to most things rose-related, and the fragrance of this was the reason I didn’t use it. Other reviewers said that it has a cooling effect on the skin and left it supple.

A close up of the mask. You can see the rose petals suspended in the gel formula.

Madam CJ Walker | Wonderful Deep Conditioning Masque ($6.67): Last month, I was disappointed that I didn’t get a Madam CJ Walker item, and I guess the Sephora gods heard me because one was in this month’s box. I first heard of the brand through Essence Beauty Box (subscription closed ?). I haven’t been disappointed with any of the products that I’ve tried and was happy to see this in my box. While the products are geared towards women of color or those with curly hair, don’t let that stop you from using this. It’s a great intensive conditioning mask for when your hair needs an extra dose of moisture.

tarte | Rainforest of the Sea Color Splash Lipstick – Set Sail ($6.13): Absolutely in love with this lipstick formula! It has become my daily lipstick since arriving. This has the full coverage you want from a lipstick, yet hydrates like a lip treatment, and is long-wearing. Set Sail is described as a dark nude shade, and I feel it is one of those universal colors that works with nearly any skin tone. I’m totally using my Play! pass to buy the full-sized version of this.

Here’s a swatch of the color on my arm.

Clinique | Pep-start 2-in-1 Exfoliating Cleanser ($4.64): This 2-in-1 is a cleanser with multi-layered exfoliating properties. As you wash, bamboo and silica beads gently scrub the skin, Glucosamine acts as chemical exfoliant that replenishes skin, and papaya extract works as an enzymatic exfoliant to give you a healthy glow. My skin felt clean and smooth after washing.

Guerlain | Mon Guerlain Perfume ($6.11): Mon Guerlain was inspired by the “notes of a woman” or “the choices, emotions and dreams that embody modern femininity.” The key notes of the fragrance are lavender, jasmine, sandalwood, and vanilla. It is a warm, sensual scent that ends on a sweet note. It vaguely reminded me of Cashmere Glow from B&BW (a retired scent that used to be a fave of mine).

My July Play! by Sephora had a value just over $46! Overall, I was very happy with this month’s box. Had I gotten the Boscia Charcoal Pore Pudding mask instead of the fresh mask, it would have been a home run versus a triple (yes, I just used a baseball metaphor). Fingers crossed that August’s delivery is as suited to me as this box was.
