This is a review of the limited edition PLAY! by SEPHORA The All-Star Edition!

You will receive an exclusive PLAY! PASS with 50 bonus Beauty Insider points via email. This pass is valid in store only with any purchase. I haven’t seen it in my inbox yet! That’s ok – I don’t have a Sephora.

This PLAY! guide to all-star beauty exclusive 6 card tarot deck shows a list of all the items included in this box plus beauty trivia and tips.

You are supposed to pick 3 cards without looking at them and lay them left to right (past, present future).  I pretty much just looked at them for product info but if you’re into Tarot, that’s a fun game.

Everything in my box!

I love this holo bag! Who wouldn’t?! It’s well made, holds quite a bit and… it’s holo!

It even has a really hefty zipper pull – no fumbling!

SK-II Facial Treatment Essence ($11.19) I haven’t ever tried this luxury cult fave before, so I was excited. It’s made of Pitera, exclusive to SK-II, and it looks like it’s some sort of exclusive yeast-based fermentation full of vitamins and minerals. It’s watery and not really sticky like many mask essences, and you’re to apply after cleansing and toning. I smoothed it on using my fingertips instead of a cotton pad as suggested – too pricy to waste! I don’t know if I’d make it part of my regime but I was glad to try it

AmorePacific Moisture Bound Rejuvenating Creme ($24) This bamboo leaf powered moisturizer is supposed to help with fine lines and wrinkles.

It has a 24 hour time release formula.

Unfortunately I couldn’t test that out. I hated the smell (sort of avon or olay-ish), and wiped it off with a micellar cleansing wipe after applying because I just couldn’t stand it. It made my skin crawl! This has great reviews, but wasn’t for me. I’ll try out using it on my chest area so it doesn’t go to waste! Nope, too smelly. I had to pass this one off. Since this is $24 of value, this was incredibly disappointing. I couldn’t imagine ever spending money on this even if was an $8 cream!

Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer ($7.2) I think Hourglass is my favorite makeup brand (I love everything they make), so this box was an auto-buy for me!

The primer lays a silky-smooth canvas with blurring particles to help you get a totally smooth makeup application canvas and reduce the look of imperfections. It even looks great all by itself! It was the perfect partner to test out with the Hourglass foundation stick from my August Sephora Play! Bonus – it has an SPF and doesn’t have that heavier silicone feel.

Tom Ford Lip Color in Indian Rose ($16.19)

This lipstick packaging is so luxe – perfect for an evening bag or whenever you want to look chic applying lipstick!

The color is quite neutral with a very light pink shimmer that doesn’t show up in the swatch.

It was a nice creamy but light mauve nudeformula, didn’t have a drugstore lipstick taste, and was a wearable color for me!

Dior DiorShow Mascara in Black ($4.28) The Tarot for this one calls it the Wand of Queens and that is TRUTH!

This tube has one of those dip in wand systems. I actually don’t prefer that kind (I like the traditional kind), and I think it’s the one thing that keeps this from being a completely perfect mascara. That being said – I have only used the trial version of this system, not on a full-sized tube.

Look at that beauty! This gave me amaaaazing length and separation.  Not a ton of volume but my lashes are so long with this mascara that it’s a completely different look.  I’m definitely going to try this out in a full sized tube (you can even see with the trial size that the mascara never quite reaches the end of the brush).

Victor & Rolf Flowerbomb ($8.50)

An explosion of flowers, Flowerbomb opens with subtle traces of bergamot and mandarin, leading to a heart of an exquisite floral explosion, comprised of sambac jasmine, freesia, centifolia rose, and osmanthus. Deep amber, woody, and patchouli notes combine with warm vanilla and praline notes to complete a truly addictive fragrance. Wear it for a night out on the town with the girls, a romantic dinner, a spontaneous adventure with no definite destination. Flowerbomb ensures you’ll leave a trail of allure wherever you go.

This starts a bit powdery and settles down. Although Sephora calls it a gourmand, I’m sticking it in the floral category. It’s quite nice and the same size is at least three times as big as usual, plus it’s a sprayer bottle with a cap.  It’s quite romantic. Perhaps not my very favorite but super wearable!

The total value of the All-Star Edition was $71 and was a super fun way to try luxury beauty at a low cost – just $20. I was thrilled with the bag, mascara, and primer, liked the perfume, essence, and lipstick, and absolutely hated the cream. What a dud, and for over 1/3 of the value of this bag – that was really disappointing. Still a good value regardless but I would have preferred a different item. I was really excited to just check this out – because I’m not a Sephora VIB Rouge member I missed out on the previous editions!

Amore Pacific products are always really heavily scented; I don’t mind it so much (and I actually really love Olay products, haha so nostalgic…) but sometimes I still am surprised that so many skincare companies add so much fragrance to their products.
