Play! by Sephora is a monthly subscription box that brings only the best and exclusive Sephora beauty and makeup samples. The subscription costs $10 per month, and you’ll get 5 deluxe beauty products, playlists, a fragrance bonus item, plus coupons you can use when you visit in-store.

Everything arrived packed in a bag, preventing items from rolling around in the box. This month’s bag seems to be celebrating Play’s first anniversary. I like this bag better than the drawstring bags that I usually receive. I feel it’s a little more travel friendly.

Don’t forget about your PLAY! Pass. It gets you 50 extra Beauty Insider points with a purchase from the box (in-store only). Your subscription also entitles you to PLAY! Date meetups if your store participates.

The May anniversary theme is The Rising Stars. It highlights the benefits of your subscription and how to make the most of it at Sephora.

The fold out poster shows a list of all the items included in this box plus product/brand trivia and beauty tips. You can access all of the information and also watch the videos right on the Sephora site or use the app to scan the sheet for more info!

Everything in my box! My variation was box 298. Click here to see variant items in other boxes!

Grande Lips | Lip Plumper – Clear ($5.00?): Well, I can say that this didn’t have the same sting as the Too Faced Lip Injection I received in my February box. Thank goodness. Infused with Volulip™ and hyaluronic acid, the effects of this plumper should be visible within 3-5 minutes. I didn’t notice much of an effect, but I also have full lips. I think I’ll just stick to using Grande’s lash primer.

The applicator on the sample is not the same as on the full size product.

Tata Harper | Resurfacing Mask ($16.25): Talk about pricey. The full-sized 1.0 oz jar goes for $65! This resurfacing mask is ideal for those with large pores, acne/blemishes, and oily skin. Some of the key ingredients in this mask are Lactobacillus (cleanse), Brown Algae (firm and lift), Prickly Pear Seed Oil (source of Vitamin E), and White Clay (remove impurities and buildup). This felt nice and I love the citrus aroma.

Milk Makeup | Blur Stick ($3.86): The Blur Stick is a primer that reduces the appearance of pores and fine lines to give your makeup a smooth, matte finish. As terrible as it sounds, I don’t wear a primer because most tend to make me break out. Most of the reviews on Sephora.com state that this does a great job of blurring lines but isn’t as effective on pores.

It’s a little hard to see, but here is a swatch of the Blur Stick.

TrèStique | Highlight + Perfect Multipurpose Stick – Maldives Luminscent ($6.00?): This shimmering pink champagne highlighter leaves skin with a subtle glow. It goes on silky smooth thanks to its creamy texture which is infused with coconut oil. The full size stick has a sponge applicator in the end.

This swatch is before blending in the highlighter. I did have to apply another coat after blending to make this a bit more noticeable.

Christophe Robin | Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt ($8.48): I love this scrub/shampoo. It works to remove product buildup, soothe sensitive scalps, and rebalance oily scalps. This is formulated with large sea salt crystals which exfoliate and support blood circulation. I used it after coloring my hair to remove excess dye on my scalp. I got a rich lather with this, but had a hard time getting the salt onto my scalp. I noticed an improvement in the effectiveness of my conditioner after using this.

This has a paste-like texture, and you can see the large sea salt crystals.

NEST | Black Tulip ($2.16): The key notes in this scent are Black Amber Plum, Pink Pepper, Japanese Violet. The fragrance is inspired by the work of 18th Century British artist Mrs. Mary Delany.

The painting is gorgeous, and I was expecting a slightly more floral scent. This was deep, but the sweeter notes of plum were most prominent.

The May anniversary Play! by Sephora is valued at $42. I’m keeping the Christophe Robin scrub and Tata Harper mask. The rest of the products are going in the giveaway bin. I’m sure my niece will snatch up the highlighter – she LOVES them. Maybe next month’s box will have more products that are geared towards my profile.
