Macy's Beauty Box August 2017 Subscription Box Review

Macy’s Beauty Box delivers five deluxe beauty samples, one bonus item, and a collectible cosmetics bag for only $15 per month. Beauty Box subscribers also get an exclusive $5 beauty coupon that can be use online and in-store.

This month’s box is all about best-in-class beauty essentials. Sample cult-classic skin care, get a perfect eye look & finish with a sexy designer fragrance.

The included bag is definitely a step up from ipsy – it stands up all by itself! August’s collectible bag is printed with this month’s theme.

There’s a nice wide zipper and this is definitely a functional bag.

Carolina Herrera Good Girl Eau de Parfum Spray ($7.65)

I was expecting this perfume to have an ironic bad girl vibe (and how disappointing it’s not a mini in the shape of that stiletto!). However it’s a light sweet scent – although it does veer clear of the overly cloying scents department stores are known for.

Smashbox Cover Shot Eye Palette in Golden Hour ($5.37)

A shadow duo is tucked inside a mirrored palette. Unfortunately I found these terra-cotta shades extremely unflattering to my skin tone. Too bad there isn’t any shade customization!

philosophy purity ($6) philosophy is super popular but I am not a fan – it uses parabens. I don’t know how they can call this cleanser purity. It’s made to tone and lightly hydrate and cleanse without over drying skin.

MAC False Lashes Black Mascara ($5?)

I received this same sample in a Birchbox earlier this year – and I will tell you the same exact thing! I like the formula and love love getting MAC in a box but this sample is SO small.

Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel ($7.20)

Another teeny weeny sample, but this one had the size so we could at least value it. This brow filler works well to fluff up sparse or patchy brows. It uses micro fibers applied with a mascara wand!

Tarte Maracuja Oil ($6.50)

I love this oil and am always thrilled to get it in a box – it’s full of essential fatty acids and antioxidants that help hydrate and retexturize your skin.

So this box had about $30 in value but I couldn’t help but be disappointed with the minuscule sample sizes. For the extra $5 this subscription has a great bag and $5 off at Macy’s – but you need to be willing to use that monthly to make it worth it (I don’t know yet if you can stack these codes!). I did like that they focused on makeup products for this month but I wished for a great lip product in place of the philosophy.
