Fortune Cookie Soap is a bath & body company that regularly releases themed collections throughout the year, usually focusing on pop culture. I’ve used their products before but what I didn’t know is that they have a quarterly subscription box. The soap box includes small travel/sample sized versions of the products that will be in an upcoming collection. Since the collections sell out very quickly on release day (I know from experience!) this is an awesome way to get a sneak peek at what’s coming.

Warning: This review is going to get meme-y.

When I saw the spoilers, I FLIPPED MY LID. Yes, the Mean Girls references are obvious, but this collection is also a tribute to MY favourite chick flick, Clueless! There are teenagers born after 2000 that haven’t seen this movie yet. When this first came out in 1995, it was the quintessential teen movie. It’s a modern day adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma. It paved the way for feather pens, Paul Rudd not aging in 20 years (SERIOUSLY!), and technology that could plan your wardrobe for you. Which is actually now a thing.

And, of course, Cher’s yellow plaid blazer and skirt combo that, back in the 90s, was considered the pinnacle of fashion.

The information card breaks down the items by product as well as offers scent notes. It’s mainly Mean Girls references but there are a few Clueless ones hidden in there… can you spot them?

Crushin’ Leave In Conditioner — For hair so big it can hold all your secrets. Pear, lemon drops, honey and lollipops!

Totally Grool — It’s great… and it’s cool. It’s grool. The FCS OCD hand sanitizer is awesome and I have them stashed all over my house and in my bags. I’m not digging this scent so much but they’re still handy to have around. Amber, pumpkin, spice, and bubblegum.

Boo, As If Whipped Cream — Whipped cream is light and fluffy whipped body butter. Clueless is just as quotable as Mean Girls, and “as if!” was a popular phrase during its heyday. This smells amaaaaazing, lemon butter shortbread with caramel drizzle. Yum!

So Vintage — A foaming sugar scrub scented with cinnamon, caramel pie, and vanilla bean. FCS sent out an email saying that the spice in this scent may cause some people with sensitive skin to have a reaction and to patch test before using. They’ll be reformulating the scent before the full collection goes live.

The lid came off of my whipped cream so the top got hard. I think I can scoop off the top layer and reveal the fluffy part underneath without too much trouble.

Way Fetch Perfume Oil — Apples, berries, plum blossoms, and sea salt. It smells amazing and perfect for summer.

On Wednesdays We Wear Pink Lip Tint — French vanilla flavoured cake. I love this! The colour is super subtle but is smoothing and soft.

Valley Girl Soap — Pomegranate, citrus, and cotton candy. This is the famous fortune cookie shaped soap. I’m not crazy about this scent, either, which is a bit of a bummer, but this is another awesome Clueless reference. Pretty sure the movie established firmly the valley girl stereotype. (Like, whatever!)

Burn Book Bath Bomb — Don’t be stressed, just put it in the book… and have a nice bath! Raspberries and marshmallows are a nice and sweet scent for this cute bath bomb.

I absolutely loved this theme! I had to go watch Mean Girls while I was reviewing just because it got me into that vibe. Some of the scents weren’t really my thing, but the quotes and the references had me laughing the whole way through.

[Editor’s Note – Let us know how you did on the quiz – I’m 13/17! Shh don’t tell Val I’m telling you she only got NINE!]
