Pop Goes the Weasel by M.J. Arlidge ($6.55).

A man’s body is found in an empty house.
A gruesome memento of his murder is sent to his wife and children.
He is the first victim, and Detective Helen Grace knows he will not be the last. But why would a happily married man be this far from home in the dead of night? The media call it Jack the Ripper in reverse: a serial killer preying on family men who lead hidden double lives.

Helen can sense the fury behind the murders. But what she cannot possibly predict is how volatile this killer is—or what is waiting for her at the end of the chase….

This is the second book from M. J. Arlidge that BookCase.Club has brought to my door. I love this writer and I can’t wait to dive into this book. Thrillers are my favorite genre and I enjoy trying to figure out the killer before the main character.

The President’s Shadow by Brad Meltzer ($6.99).

A severed arm, found buried in the White House Rose Garden.
A lethal message with terrible consequences for the Presidency.

And a hidden secret in one family’s past that will have repercussions for the entire nation.

Following The Inner Circle and The Fifth Assassin, #1 bestselling author Brad Meltzer returns with . . .

THE PRESIDENT’S SHADOW

There are stories no one knows. Hidden stories. I find those stories for a living.

To most, it looks like Beecher White has an ordinary job. A young staffer with the National Archives in Washington, D.C., he’s responsible for safekeeping the government’s most important documents . . . and, sometimes, its most closely held secrets.

But there are a powerful few who know his other role. Beecher is a member of the Culper Ring, a 200-year-old secret society founded by George Washington and charged with protecting the Presidency.

Now the current occupant of the White House needs the Culper Ring’s help. The alarming discovery of the buried arm has the President’s team in a rightful panic. Who buried the arm? How did they get past White House security? And most important: What’s the message hidden in the arm’s closed fist? Indeed, the puzzle inside has a clear intended recipient, and it isn’t the President. It’s Beecher, himself.

Beecher’s investigation will take him back to one of our country’s greatest secrets and point him toward the long, carefully hidden truth about the most shocking history of all: family history.

Brad Meltzer is a wonderful writer who is working in many genres, comics, children’s books and thrillers. He is amazing with history and I cannot wait to crack open this novel, unfortunately I have to wait until my husband finishes it first.

BookCase.Club is such a fun subscription. I love getting books that are a little older but new to me. There is nothing better than meeting new characters and new authors. This is a first in a long time that I’ve gotten an author I’m familiar with already. These books are going to be so much fun to complete and talk to my husband about. He tells me all the time that I am the only person he knows who can make reading a spectator sport, apparently I laugh and yell at the characters but there is not picture proof. I feel a tickle in my throat (wink) so I can’t do anything but read for the next week.

Have you tried any of the BookCase.Club subscriptions?

I LOVED this month’s selections. I’ve been wanting to read both books especially Pop Goes the Weasel which I plan to read in one night as soon as I have a quiet night. I am curious to see where the author takes Helen Grace’s character. I’ve always enjoyed reading Brad Meltzer’s books and expect to like The President’s Shadow. I need to find free time to read!

Thanks for this review! I Am considering the Thrill Seeker box after having a bad experience with another book subscription box company. Unfortunately, neither of the books you received seem to be “up my alley”, so I think I’ll be waiting a bit.
