The Tomb Robber and King Tut by Sarah Gauch ($4.88)

For years Mr. Howard has come to the valley near my village where the great pharaohs, the kings of Egypt, are buried in underground tombs. And for months I’ve pleaded with Baba, my father, to let me work with Mr. Howard, as he searches for a certain king’s tomb—King Tut’s tomb.

Young Hassan wants nothing more than to help with the search. But Hassan’s father is concerned. Their family is descended from ‘tomb robbers’. Despite being honest farmers now, they’re not fully trusted. Hassan could get into serious trouble.

But Hassan is determined. Soon, he is working long, hard days filling baskets with sand, and baring the brunt of others who are suspicious of him. Just when Hassan is most discouraged, he spots something glittering where he’s been working. And no one else has seen it yet. What should he do?

The Tomb Robber and King Tut is an exciting imagining of the actual discovery of the boy king’s tomb in the 1920s.

The kids were enthralled by this book – and how could they not? The paintings are gorgeous (the light in them is absolutely beautiful) and the story is fascinating.

I Didn’t Know That Sharks Keep Losing Their Teeth ($7.99)

I don’t remember receiving a nonfiction book in this subscription before – we love it! My kids love fun facts and learning about the world.

The combination of illustrations, questions/interactive parts, and photos makes it really visually engaging!

Me First by Max Kornell ($5.53)

Max Kornell’s relatable tale of sibling rivalry will charm readers and make them laugh with a brother and sister’s constant attempts to outdo each other.

If there’s one thing siblings Hal and Martha can agree on, it’s this: It is important to be first! But what happens when being first is suddenly not so much fun? Competing to explore a new route home one day, Hal and Martha discover that sometimes having a brother or sister right beside you is even better than being one step ahead of them.

Awww, lucky for me my big kids have never shown an ounce of sibling rivalry – they do everything together.

Great for families with kids that are always attempting to outdo each other!

Miss Brooks’ Story Nook By Barbara Bottner ($11.29)

Missy loves her librarian, Miss Brooks. And she loves to go to Miss Brooks’ before-school story time. But to get to Story Nook, she has to pass Billy Toomey’s house—and she does not love Billy Toomey.

Billy always tries to steal her hat and jeers, “I’m going to get you!” It’s vexing. Then one rainy (and hatless) day, Miss Brooks changes story hour to storytelling hour. She teaches the kids about characters and plot and action and satisfying conclusions and encourages them to make up their own tales.

And that’s when Missy has a brainstorm. She sees a way to use her made-up story to deal with her real-life bully.

In this terrifically funny ode to inventiveness and ingenuity, Barbara Bottner and Michael Emberley celebrate the power of stories and how they can help us to rewrite our own lives.

This books takes us on a tour of her imagination and wonderings. So much fun!

While 1/4 books wasn’t relevant (at all! I’m lucky!) to us, for $15 even if we like two, this subscription is still a win – plus then I have a thoughtful gift for a friend. We have some serious story time when this book box comes in and so much fun reading as a family!
