TopMunch is an around the world snack subscription box. Each month features different hard-to-find traditional food & snacks, as well as a guide to local music, local attractions, and local language. It’s like travelling the world without leaving the comforts of home. Currently they only ship within the US, but we’re looking forward to them branching out to other locations.

The note card has some interesting info about the Netherlands and its culture. There is also a playlist to help magnify the tasting experience and some Dutch phrases. Personally I’d like a phonetic break down of the words so I can lean to say them correctly.

DEAL: Get $5 off of your first box! Use coupon code  HELLOSUBFIRSTBOX.

The reverse has travel information, notes on the five included snacks and information about the referral program. Everything’s very detailed and we appreciate that, I would like to see a few more pictures of the featured country.

Ruiter Banket Speculaas (Windmill Spiced Cookies). Speculaas are traditionally baked for the Holiday of Sinterklass, celebrated on the 5th of December. The cookies are thin, crunchy and lightly browned. They reminded me of ginger snaps in texture with lots of cinnamon , cloves and nutmeg. I truly enjoyed these cookies, I think my family just tasted them to appease me.

Euro Patisserie Cheese Crispies. These cheese crispies are also known as Smelik Kaas Kanties and are made with high quality Gouda, Edam cheese and butter. They remind me of the toasted cheese on a casserole, amazingly good. Not sure I need anything other than these to accompany a salad, so much better than everyday croutons.

Van Delft Cafe Noir. Cafe Noir is a crunchy cookie topped with a sweet coffee flavored glaze. Top Munch suggests dipping these cookies in hot coffee or tea for a delicious indulgence, sounds like an amazing idea to me! I love that these are slightly sweet but not so sweet that you can’t have more than one.

Gustag’s Licorice Drops. This is not the typical American version of licorice it’s called salmiak and is a variety of licorice flavored by ammonium chloride giving it an astringent salty taste. Dutch people like giving it to foreigners to film their reactions. This was too much for me, I couldn’t even swallow it, my mother on the other hand polished off the entire bag.

Castelejin Syrup Wafers (Stroopwafel). What is so funny is that I actually received this same treat in another food box this month. These waffle is made from two thin layers of baked dough filled with a caramel like syrup. These are a delicious sweet treat that will be found in my home from now on. I like how the stroopwafel is crispy yet soft.

I LOVE this new feature of the score cards! It made for a much more interactive family tasting night. We all sat around the kitchen taking pictures then trying our new treats and laughing at each others reactions.

June’s TopMunch was a treat! All of the products were fresh and most of them interestingly new. My favorite was the Cafe Noir cookies! This box is a great way to sample treats from around the world that you probably wouldn’t be able to enjoy without visiting the country yourself. If you are a traveling foodie or know one, this would be an awesome gift! It’s also a great way to spice up family time or a game night, I am super excited to see what July brings to my door.
