ReadDog Books is a personalized curated book subscription box where the book is chosen based on your preferences. When you subscribe, you fill out a quick little form where they ask you what kind of book you like, which one did you love, what’s your ideal reading experience, etc. This subscription is $31.99 with free US shipping ($8 to Canada and $15 international), with discounts for longer subscriptions. Honestly, I’m so excited when I see that super long box in my mailbox, it turns my day into a happy and smiling day!

There’s a note about the theme for the month, regardless of the personalised book chosen for each subscriber. For June, the theme is “Sonder”, the realization that everyone, even secondary characters, is living a life as vivid as our own. There’s also a Facebook community for Read Dog subscribers!

As usual, we get a bookmark, this time with an explanation of what “Sonder” is. A reminder that even background characters are important. And to learn more about background characters in our life, about people we have never met or heard of, this month we are invited to write a letter that you send back to Read Dog Books to be included in the box going to an other subscriber! How neat is that! Such a fun way to connect with other book lovers with an old fashion letter! You also received couple of puzzle pieces, a cute puzzle charm and a synthetic turquoise pendant to help us keep perspective on our relationship to others. I really love all these little additions to the box that makes you take a step back and think.

Every month, we get a little something to drink. This month’s tea is Summer Tranquility, a white tea from KuCha House of Tea. I also got two ginger chews, deliciously gingery!

The print fits nicely with the theme, as every character shopping at the same place have all different stories!

As usual, the book comes all wrapped up! It keeps you guessing as you go through the other goodies, an extra gift within a gift!

This month, I’ve received The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman.

Bod is an unusual boy who inhabits an unusual place—he’s the only living resident of a graveyard. Raised from infancy by the ghosts, werewolves, and other cemetery denizens, Bod has learned the antiquated customs of his guardians’ time as well as their ghostly teachings—such as the ability to Fade so mere mortals cannot see him.

Can a boy raised by ghosts face the wonders and terrors of the worlds of both the living and the dead?

I love Neil Gaiman, and even though this book feels like it is for a younger audience, it was on my TBR list. It sounds like the people behind Read Dog knew which book from Neil Gaiman I didn’t have yet…

Every time I get my Read Dog Box, I get excited to see what new book to me I’ll be getting. I love the feeling that someone took the time to know me a bit (through the survey you fill out when you subscribe) before choosing the perfect book! So far, the curation for my boxes has been so on point, it’s crazy! I love how they have a theme for the box, not around a specific book, and that you can share your thoughts in their reading community.

What’s also nice about this subscription is that if you have already read the book, or own the book, or hated the book, they will exchange your book for a different one! So the avid reader who seems to have read everything will get something new, guaranteed!

Once you have received and enjoy your box, you can fill out a survey about your experience so they can send you an even better box next time! And if you have more specific demands about the kind of books you want, just send them an email!
