Powell’s Boox is a picture book club delivered to your door ever other month. For $35.95 bimonthly, you’ll get a box that features one new hardcover picture book and an additional hardcover staff favorite, along with other exciting goodies.

The items were tightly wrapped in plastic. Each box comes with a coloring sheet.

The back of the coloring sheet shows a list of all the items in the box and why they were selected.

Everything in my box!

eeBoo Life On Earth Puzzle ($8.95) eeBoo is a great paper-based toy manufacturer and this puzzle is no exception!

It’s perfect, especially since it has a beaver!

Peace Is An Offering By Annette LeBox & Stephanie Graegin ($7.02)

Peace is an offering.
A muffin or a peach.
A birthday invitation.
A trip to the beach.

Join this group of neighborhood children as they find love in everyday things—in sunlight shining through the leaves and cookies shared with friends—and learn that peace is all around, if you just look for it. With rhyming verse and soft illustrations, this book will help families and teachers look for the light moments when tragedy strikes and remind readers of the calm and happiness they find in their own community every day.

This book is meant to be a book about learning about loss and tragedy.

I actually thought this reference had next to zero meaning for today’s children and a lot of the themes are off the mark, unless it’s a book you need. I agree with one of the amazon reviewers that it gets “weirdly dark” for ages 3-5 (the recommended range).

The Fog By Kyo Maclear & Kenard Pak ($11.36)

A clever and whimsical environmental fable about a bird who is a human-watcher from a dynamic author-illustrator duo.

Warble is a small yellow warbler who lives on the beautiful island of Icyland, where he pursues his hobby of human watching. But on a warm day, a deep fog rolls in and obscures his view. The rest of the birds don’t seem to notice the fog or the other changes Warble observes on the island. The more the fog is ignored, the more it spreads. When a Red-hooded Spectacled Female (Juvenile) appears, Warble discovers that he’s not the only one who notices the fog. Will they be able to find others who can see it too? And is the fog here to stay? Kyo Maclear’s witty story, brought to life with the delicate, misty artwork of Kenard Pak, is a poignant yet humorous reminder of the importance of environmental awareness.

This is the main selection for the box. I love the little human-watching compendium on the front leaves.

It’s a funny concept with dreamy sketch-like watercolorish artwork.

The Fog Postcards

Along with the book, a set of postcards were included.

The total value of this box was $27.33 –  far below the $39.95 cost (and about $5 less than last box), which does include shipping. I was really hoping for more from this subscription, but when I compare it to the Bookcase club ($15 shipped) there’s just no contest for me. I like the books far more and it’s less than half the price.
