TokyoTreat is a Japanese treat box that is shipped directly from Japan. TokyoTreat has three levels of boxes, which seems to be the norm with snack boxes. Shipping is included with the boxes ($14.99 for mini, $24.99 for regular, $34.99 for premium). For their third year, TokyoTreat has revamped their box — it’s bigger in height and width but is shallower than the old box.

A letter from box founder Ayumi explains that there have been some substitutions this month. There was a typhoon last fall which has affected potato farmers in Hokkaido. Two items in the May box have been replaced. I love that Tokyo Treat is being proactive about this and explaining the situation.

The TokyoTreat magazine is read right to left like Japanese books and comics. It includes the product information as well as information on Japanese culture, the monthly giveaway, instructions for the DIY kit, and other features.

Most of the popular snack boxes have this sort of tiered system with three levels of size!

Here’s what’s included in the small box!

Dagashi Snack Bag A bag of assorted snacks is now included in the small box. I got a lobster flavoured umaibo, some bean crisp snacks, a lollipop, chocolate filled cookies, and some sort of cracker I haven’t tried yet.

Soy Sauce Caramel Corn A replacement for the Baby Star chips! Tohato caramel corn isn’t pop corn, it’s puffed corn curls like Cheezies often with sweet flavouring instead of savoury. The soy sauce ones are sweet and reminiscent of the flavouring on rice crackers.

Yogurt Fruit Gummies Orange, apple, and pineapple gummies. The package includes powdered yogurt you can dip them in for an extra treat.

Butter Cookie KitKats Some KitKats from Japan you an actually bake in a toaster oven; these are one of them. I ate them on their own and would say they’re probably my favourite to date. They contain 0.17% alcohol.

The regular box includes all of the above, plus:

Melon-Pan Mini Cookies Butter cookies shaped like little sliced cantelopes. They are rich and buttery.

Mild Milk Cacao Pocky A lighter chocolate flavour. I found these a bit boring.

Waraku no Sato Yokan A traditional Japanese snack. It’s a jelly candy made of red bean paste, sugar, and agar.

Doraemon Cocoa Puffs This is a replacement item as well, though it’s thoughtful of TokyoTreat to replace one Doraemon-themed item with another! This plastic container is full of chocolate covered corn puffs.

Taiyaki Chocolate Monaka I have had variations of this before and I love it each time — a fish-shaped wafer cookie full of aerated chocolate.

Here’s a picture of the adorable little Melonpan cookies!

And finally, the premium box, which includes everything in the small and regular, plus:

Hana Kappa DIY Kit Combining a bit of water with powder lets you mould gummies into shapes from an anime. Most DIY kits are similar to this, and are very simple so kids can do them!

Gochi Kiwi Gummy I am not a kiwi fan so I gave these to my snack partner in crime, Mitch. He really liked them! There is also 3500mg of collagen in these.

Nectar Peach and Cherry Blossom Juice White peach juice with cherry blossom added as well. It has a slightly floral taste but the peach is the focus.

Winter Edition Everyday Luxury KitKats Another box of LE KitKats! There are 8 altogether, half being white chocolate and the other half being milk. They are sprinkled with dried cranberries and almonds. I took these to work to share, the overwhelming consensus is the white ones are better. I don’t even like white chocolate that much but I agree! They have 0.36% alcohol content.

Calimero Mobile Phone Strap It’s a penguin driving a car. This is everything.

I think that the May box was great! It’s always a bummer when items are replaced but TokyoTreat did a good job trying to fix a problem out of their control. I loved the fancy KitKats the most this month!
