TopMunch is an around the world snack subscription box. Each month features different hard-to-find traditional food & snacks, as well as a guide to local music, local attractions, and local language. It’s like travelling the world without leaving the comforts of home. Currently they only ship within the US, but we’re looking forward to them branching out to other locations.

The note card has some interesting info about Indonesia and its culture. There is also a playlist to help magnify the tasting experience and some Indonesian phrases.

DEAL: Get $5 off of your first box! Use coupon code  HELLOSUBFIRSTBOX.

The reverse has travel information, notes on the five included snacks and information about the referral program. Everything’s just very detailed and we appreciate that.

Bagelen Biscuits. Origninated from Central Java, this is a light snack that could be enjoyed at all times. Bagelen is a round shaped dried bread with sweet butter as the topping. It’s like eating extra crispy toast that is cold. Not a terrible experience I just like my toast warm with melted butter.

Astor Wafer Stick. Astor Water Stick is a product manufactured by Mayora Co., a pioneer in Indonesian confectionery products since 1977. This product is essentially a crispy wafer filled with oodles of rich tasty chocolate cream with two chocolate lines drawn across the outside of the wafer. I could eat the entire box in one sitting these are so delicious. Just sweet enough make me swoon and pairs perfect with any beverage… coffee, tea, wine or milk.

Rotary Medan Style Peanuts. Medan is the fourth largest city in Indonesia. These little gems are like eating Cracker Jacks, sweet, crispy and airy. It took me a few tries to figure out if I really liked these but once I got away from the looks of them I found them to be wonderful. I could see having a bag of these treats in my desk for a quick pick me up.

Kusuka Saos Balado: Glazed Tapioca (Cassava) Chips Spicy Chilli. Tapioca is a form of staple diet in South East Asia and due to this abundance in availability, it is not uncommon to see the tapioca cup and fried into chips. The coalition of caramelized sugar mixed with fresh spicy chili will tingle your taste buds like no other. The dual flavors ensure that spiciness is subdued, and this somehow enhances the flavor. Getting past the shinny almost plastic look of these chips took me a minute but the idea of spicy chips put a smile on my lips. These were not as spicy as I could have liked but I would absolutely eat them with a sandwich for lunch.

ACS Kerupuk Casandra Tapioca Crackers. Primarily made from tapioca starch and palm oil these chips are called “glasses.” I have eaten a lot of foods in my life that others would hate but this takes the cake as the worst one. It took all my inner strength not to gag, these are just not on my try again list.

Taro Net Chips Seaweed Flavor. These are like eating Chex mix in shape and size but not flavor. I normally shy away from seaweed inspired foods but I put on my big girl pants and jumped into the net. Holy cow, was I surprised by the light seaweed flavor and how good they are at making my mouth water just thinking about them now.

Kopilo Cappuccino Candy. With a full and robust cappuccino flavor, this Indonesian candy is a fan favorite. You will be able to enjoy a caffeine-filled coffee punch with its flavors well accented by the taste of creamy milk and a hit of vanilla. Kopiko Cappuccino Candies are a deliciously addictive treat, which you can enjoy throughout your day.

May’s TopMunch was treat! All of the products were fresh and interestingly new. My favorites were the wafers and the cappuccino candies! I have a sweet tooth the size of Indonesia, which I just learned is the world’s largest island country. This box is a great way to sample treats from around the world that you probably wouldn’t be able to enjoy without visiting the country yourself. If you are a traveling foodie or know one, this would be an awesome gift!
