Every month Target launches non-subscription Target Beauty Boxes.  Depending on the contents, they are themed and cost $5-10, and sell out quickly! This box happens to still be available for $10.

April’s box had the theme “Hello Renweal” with Target’s latest obsessions designed to make you feel refreshed.

The card reminds you that you can find the full-sized version at Target.com/beautybox.

The May Target Beauty Box was $10

The information card gives brief details on each item, and there’s a $3 off $15 coupon too. This month’s card features Tips, Tricks, and How-Tos!

Vichy Pore-Purifying Clay Mask ($3.68) This sample is two individual packs of Vichy’s clay mask, which uses Kaolin and Bentonite to draw out excess oils and impurities. It also uses aloe vera to hydrate and Vichy’s thermal mineral water.

It’s not on the card, but Vichy suggests using this for multimasking – which is using masks on different areas of your face to target different areas. Perhaps that’s why there’s two clay masks in this box:

ACURE Pore-Minimizing Red Clay Mask ($8.99) This sample is nearly 2/3 of the full size!

I love the directions: apply in a thin layer until you look like an extra in a zombie movie! I can confirm that I indeed looked terrifying with this mask on! This mask has a slight “green” scent common in Acure products, which are high quality and always work very well!

I did find it a touch drying – should have followed the tip to remove before drying completely.

Soap & Glory Flake Away Body Polish ($2.34) No surprise, this sugar scrub smells like soap, at least when you first open it.

It uses shea butter, almond oil, peach seed powder, and sugar to help flake away dead skin and leave it hydrated even after toweling off. When I got it into the shower, all I could smell was peaches. Yum!

Nexxus Shampoo ($0.17)

Nexxus Conditioner ($0.22)

These 2 samples are the first two steps in the Therappe Humectress system, which uses caviar protein to restore moisture to dry hair. They make your hair silky smooth without using silicone!

The shampoo smells like coconut and the conditioner has some sort of tropical fruit smell. My hair felt great with these, but an FYI – the conditioner made my shower slick (I sprayed shower cleaner when leaving).

The containers are weird – and FYI, if you have long hair you may not get a full use out of them. Break in half and then break back the tab. Squeeze the fat part of the bottle to get the product out.

Step 3 of the system (not included): “Finish with Nexxus Humectress Luxe Lightweight Conditioning Mist or Humectress Encapsulate Serum”

Nexxus Vitall 8-in-1 Masque ($3.99) Hooray, something for finer hair!  Although I’m glad to get this, It’s a little odd they didn’t include step 3 in the Therappe Humectress system instead.

This is designed to be used from mid-hair to your ends, so for someone like me with fine, short hair, it will last forever. I think it will be 1-2 uses for normal hair. The scent of this product killed the tropical fun of the shampoo & conditioner though – it was a musky heavy fragrance.

Nubian Heritage Bath Bombs in Coconut & Papaya ($4.99) These scented bath bombs have a great tropical scent: coconut & papaya!

They’re made with fair trade & organic ingredients – but it seems to just be the shea butter in the bath bomb.

They smell great! As an adult who doesn’t take baths, they’re going straight to my kids (they adore bath bombs!).

Wet n Wild MegaLast Liquid Lipstick ($4.99) Finally, a highly pigmented matte liquid lipstick!

It’s definitely bold! The color I received was “Nice to Fuschia” and looks great on!

This lipstick had an odd forked applicator, but it helped get it in the right place.

It applies glossy and dries matte. It wasn’t waterproof though – it came off completely in the shower (after drying completely) and left a pretty pink tint.

Guess Dare Fragrance for Women ($1.40) Dare is the newest Guess Fragrance: notes os crisp kumquat, jasmine and coconut palm.

I’m not altogether pleased that this is a vial (instead of a sprayer). If I’m paying for it, I think the applicator should always be a sprayer. This fragrance is a light, barely there tropical.

I calculated a value of about $31 for this month’s box – which is about three times the cost, which is great for an inexpensive beauty box! There were definitely some odd choices – 2 clay masks and the Nexxus products that weren’t designed to go together.  I’m happiest with the clay masks & the bath bombs (for the kids!) and I actually really liked the shampoo & conditioner, but I really need to have 5 days of that to really evaluate it on my hair & scalp. If you want to try these products out, this box is still available!
