nmnl is a new subscription box by the brains behind Tokyo Treat and Yume Twins. They promise to deliver a Japanese beauty experience curated by people familiar with the current trends in Japan. I was really pleased with the first nmnl box in February – the items were current and trending so I was able to get retail prices for almost anything which, to me, added to the value of the box.

The booklet is brief but contains all the information necessary. This month’s theme is Skincare Essentials. I know some people will be disappointed at the lack of makeup items, but I think that good skincare helps create the canvas you need for makeup. So I don’t mind this interlude. And Japan has some awesome skincare products.
Oil Treat Sweet Black Mascara — A mascara infused with lavender oil and other beauty oils. It doesn’t smell that great so I won’t use it, but it found a new home at my recent Japanese beauty meetup!
Brigitte Liquid Eyeliner — Japan does the best eyeliners. I swear you could wear it through a tsunami or a hurricane and it would still hold. I swatched it three days ago and it’s still on my hand.
Brigitte Smoothie Lip Tint — A very pretty soft coral colour with fruit extracts to hydrate your lips.
Super Cover Foundation Brush — These brushes are all the rage lately — apparently they help buff out foundation and are super soft! I don’t wear foundation so this found a new home.
Menturm Petroleum Jelly — It doesn’t sound exciting, but petroleum jelly is a great occlusive and seals in moisture. I like to use it on the dry patches on my face along my nose, and this works well. But it really is just Vaseline in a fancy tube! I will say the packaging is far more hygenic than the tubs of Vaseline you dig your fingers into.
This month’s nmnl box really got back to the promise of a makeup box! Four makeup items and a skincare item is a nice change of pace. The eyeliner and the jelly were my favourite items from the box but everything else was, for me, underwhelming just because I won’t really use it.
