Girls Can Crate is a monthly subscription for children between 5 and 10 years of age that promotes the idea that girls can do whatever they set their minds to. Each month features a different female pioneer whose story inspires girls to achieve. Each box includes a 20 page activity book that includes the heroine’s story, 2-3 STEAM activities and creative play props. Boxes cost $29.95 each month and can ship to either the United States or Canada. Although this box is intended for girls, I’m a firm believer that it’s crucial for boys to believe that girls can do whatever they set their minds to!

Each box arrives well packaged with attractive squiggles.

February’s crate is chock full of information, activities and supplies!

Madam C.J. Walker is this month’s heroine. She is America’s first female self-made millionaire and she also helped in empowering women by teaching them how to become financially savvy. Her story is so inspiring!

As always, the pointers they provide are spot on! Being financially savvy isn’t something you pick up overnight, it takes discipline and understanding about how money works too. So it’s really good to start them young. We’ll check out the books suggested for grown-up reading – “Raising Financially Confident Kids” by Mary Hunt and “The Opposite of Spoiled: Raising Kids Who Are Grounded, Generous, and Smart About Money” by Ron Lieber.

A sneak peek for the March crate!

A reminder to share photos on social media and to share the inspiration to family and friends.

The kids will definitely learn an important thing or two from Madam C.J. Walker.

More than being smart about finances or possessing great entrepreneurial qualities, she also knows how to give back to the people and that’s what makes her story even more extraordinary.

The enclosed activity booklet included cute illustrations and fun activities for the kids!

I liked the lesson and the encouragement imparted at the end of this story – that you can be of great help to others regardless of how big or small you have.

Activities provided on the booklet range from easy to difficult. We like the variety! There’s something as easy as maze games, and there’s something that will give you and your kid something worthwhile to discuss.

There was even a recipe for a sugar scrub! Apparently, Madam C.J. Walker also helped people who were having problems with their dry skin. On the other side of the page is a crossword puzzle that will test your child on how much he remembered about her story.

Girls Can Crate also encourages creativity and provides fun ways of stimulating a kid’s imagination! We liked this particular activity about writing our own story by coming up with proper nouns for the common nouns they provide.

Of course, they also provided something where we can put our math skills to good use.

There was a simple yet meaningful quote from Madam C.J. Walker printed at the back of the booklet.

More activities!!! I appreciate that Girls Can Crate offers suggestions for timing the activities within the main activity book.

Most of the materials are provided, while instructions are well detailed and visual.

She literally squealed when she opened the box. She was totally entranced by Madame Walker, plus she loves playing store!

Here’s all the included supplies. Time to stock up & sell our wares.

First up: Homemade bath bombs! Our daughter was over the moon about this activity and was able to complete it nearly unassisted.

She mixed all the required items together…

And the bombs foamed up in the muffin tin.

It may be a little hard to see, but these are the bath bombs after they’ve dried. You can see the tops are concave. Love the science + economics lessons.

Our daughter made a box out of construction paper to store them in.

There were all sorts of cutouts and money (she was delighted to tell us there were $44 total) and labels for the World’s Best Bath Bombs!

She transformed her box into a cash registered using the included supplies and calculator (FYI, this is still being used!).

There were even receipts to help with real-life math applications!

What a great box! Everything’s just so on point, from the pointers to the booklet and to the activities. Teaching kids about financial matters is not an easy thing, but this subscription provided so many fun opportunities for us to take advantage of and we appreciate it. Actually, even grown-ups will learn a lot just by reading Madam C.J. Walker’s story. The next month featured Junko Tabei, the first woman to climb all Seven Summits.
