Comic Bento is a monthly comic book subscription service that delivers graphic novels and comics each month. This is a great value because every month, you’ll receive at least $50 in books.

DEAL: Save 15% on any subscription with coupon code FRIEND15.

Special care is given to each box. To keep the books from jostling about, Comic Bento uses air cushioning and has all books packed together in plastic with cardboard to keep everything straight.

Four books from four different publishers. Comic Bento did well including some nice items to their offering this month.

Comic Bento includes a 2-sided card that gives you some insight into the books they sent. They also give some backstory as to why they chose the books within the subscription box. This month’s theme is “DON’T GET MAD, GET EVEN.”

Comic Bento is great at providing variety while sticking to their theme.

The Sword: Fire – Image Comics  $14.99 cover price.  Joshua and Jonathan Luna bring on a serious tale of vengeance.  A college girl with powers from a sword avenging the death of her family.  Sounds like fun!

  • It was a day like any other for Dara Brighton, a promising young college student, until three strangers knocked on her door, looking for a unique sword, and destroyed her life!
  • A modern day fantasy series from the creators behind Ultra and Girls!
  • Praised as the fusion of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Kill Bill!

Death Force: The Fires of Vengeance  $19.99 cover price.  This book sounds like a cross between Spawn and Robocop and is sure to be a pretty brutal revenge story.  Zenescope has been making great strides in the world of comic books and this looks like an excellent addition to their ever growing library.

Rick Murphy is a regular guy who’s starting a new family and new career as a Philadelphia police officer. But when the rookie cop stumbles onto the wrong case, it triggers a horrific tragedy as his life comes crumbling down around him.

Devastated and broken, Rick is given the chance to seek vengeance on those who have destroyed his life. Now, with a dark and mysterious power at his fingertips, Rick can seek the vengeance he thirsts for, but will the darkness ultimately be too much for him to control?

Death of X – Marvel Comics – $17.99 cover price. This is an excellent book. I had already read this in the comic book form but I like receiving this collected trade paperback as it will be easier to go back and re-read. If you would like to hear more of my thoughts on this series, check out this podcast.

What happened eight months ago that set the Inhumans and X-Men on a collision course? Find out here! The Inhumans travel to Japan where one of the Terrigen Clouds creates a shocking new Inhuman. The X-Men travel to Muir Island where the second Terrigen Cloud causes something truly terrible. When these two events collide a war of catastrophic proportions explodes!

COLLECTING: Death of X 1-4

Mercy Thompson: Hopcross Jilly – $24.99 cover price. This original story is exclusively in comic book form. Fans of the shapeshifter will be happy to receive this hardcover collection.

Mercy is a shapeshifting coyote and honorary member of the Tri-Cities werewolf pack. When the pack stumbles upon the buried bones of numerous dead children, she shapeshifts into a mystery of the legendary fae – a mystery that draws Mercy’s stepdaughter Jesse into the fray!

The supernatural romance series Mercy Thompson continues in this all-new, original story by New York Times bestselling author, Patricia Briggs, exclusively created for the comic book medium!

Collects the six-issue Mercy Thompson comic book series from 2014-2015, a story set in official continuity.

Comic Bento is such an awesome value! All four of these books were packaged so well together and arrived in spectacular condition. As stated earlier, there is a theme but there’s also a ton of variety, and the theming of this box is pretty unique amongst comic subscriptions. The curator’s notes really bring the theme together, and that made this box even more awesome!  I’m just wondering when they will start including DC Comics.

What did you think of this month’s Comic Bento theme?
