All we needed from home was water, a spoon, and some paper towels – the kit had dye tablets, water absorbing pellets, and instant snow! A sticker sheet covered with scientists and lab equipment came with a lab scene to decorate. We also received our collectible Mad Scientist sticker. We even got a journal to document our experiments and focus our inquiry. The back of the booklet reminded us of the steps of scientific method. The interior matched the method as well, providing a space for recording notes at ever stage of the inquiry. A chart and drawing space were even included to allow for non-prose observations and diagramming. The kit included five experiment cards. The lab book was helpful for keeping notes and making hypotheses. The screwtop test tubes and rack were handy for containing the potentially messy dye tablets. Our daughter loves playing with water, so these experiments were perfect for her. We dropped the tablets one at a time. All the primary colors! The instant snow was an instant hit. We later even dyed it purple! We designed our own lab with the sticker sheet. It looks like our little scientists are exploring chemistry, biology, botany, and even robotics! Small water-absorbing gel marbles ballooned to several times their original size when added to water. Our kids really enjoy Bramble Box. Most kits contain crafts that create imagination driven toys or costume gear the kids use over and over again. This kit was science focused. The activities were simple and observation-driven, avoiding the danger and complexity of chemicals. Our eight year old had a lot of fun, and it would certainly be appropriate for slightly younger kids, too. Have you tried Bramble Box yet? What did you think?
