Birchbox is a beauty sampling subscription service that sends 5 new items each month so you can try before you buy. Birchbox is $10 a month and you can choose a monthly sample during selection time, let Birchbox decide, or pick a pre-curated box. This is a review of a regular, non-curated box.

DEALBirchbox is offering a FREE Oribe Supershine Cream with any women’s Birchbox subscription, while supplies last! Just use code ORIBESHINE  at checkout – OR get a free Pixi by Petra Palette! with any women’s Birchbox subscription, while supplies last, with coupon code MESMERIZE at checkout!

This month’s theme is “Low Effort, High Impact.”

The information card gives brief details on each item as well as the price if you were to buy the full size.

You can visit Birchbox.com/MyBox to easily see the details of your box, which I recommend because sometimes they have videos on the item product pages which I find useful.

Everything in my box!

Davines MINU Shampoo ($7.69) Whoops! Needed to update my Birchbox profile – I haven’t been coloring my hair, so I didn’t need color protection. The scent is sweet and fun and it’s a high quality sulfate-free shampoo. Unlike some samples I’ve received in other subscriptions recently, this is a nice generous size too!

Davines MINU Conditioner ($1.42) I always love getting the matching conditioner so I can test out a new hair system all together. It was light and fine, but I can’t say I’ve ever really wanted to buy Davines because I’m not down with the conditioner tub. Yes you can use every bit, but it gets a little ick.

COOLA SPF 30 Daydream Mineral Primer ($7) This mineral primer is super silky and smooth!  I can’t say that there’s any scent – the floral stem cells are for improving your skin, not scenting the product. This product is extraordinarily pricey. I love it, I love the natural SPF, but it doesn’t go that far really at all and if this mostly empty tube is 1/6 of the full size, I’ll have to pass. Really, am I supposed to spend $42 per week on my primer (because this was about 1 application’s worth)?!

M·A·C Cosmetics False Lashes Mascara ($23 fullsize – $5?) M·A·C at Birchbox, I couldn’t be happier! For me this is a high quality defining mascara that’s black, black, black. The only downside is that seems more like a trial sample than a travel sample. Usually when mascara samples don’t come with a size listed they’re about half the size, but I wouldn’t give this sample that benefit of the doubt! I didn’t get a lot of volume out of this mascara, hoping to try some others soon, though.

TokyoMilk Dark Pretty Rotten Eau de Parfum ($2.68?) We used 3ml for the sample size, there’s no label anywhere.

This is a weird perfume! I was excited to see this brand in the box – love most of both TokyoMilk/Dark and Margot Elena’s uberbrand’s scents – but this goes on like a nearly rotten (very ripe if I’m being nice?) apple and dries down powdery. Not for me!

Whish Firming Body Cream ($5.40) This firming cream contains a blend of natural actives to “stimulate blood flow and reduce inflammation, plus moisturize and protect skin from free radicals.”

It has a really light floral scent, and if it actually firmed your skin, it would probably cost hundreds of times more than this. It’s a nice lotion for sure!

Not too shabby right around $29.50, but certainly not my favorite Birchbox. I really only liked the Coola, and was glad I had the chance to sample it, because I would have been disappointed in the lack of value in the full-size product. I’ll use everything except the fragrance, which I’ll pass to a friend to see if it’s more suited to her chemistry.

I LOVE the coola, but definitely can’t pay that full price cost. I also received the lotion, and maybe it’s bc I’m EXTRA flabby, but I didn’t notice ANY firming going on either. My last Birchbox was wayyyy better than this month’s…

I liked the Davines MINU when I received it in the past. I now purchase the Coola Primer after receiving it as a sample. The full-size Coola primer lasts about six weeks for me.

Was your sample really really small?

Yes, maybe enough for one time use.

The Tokyo Milk was awful, like so bad it made me want to throw up! I don’t know who would enjoy that smell…like, whoa!
